The Big Picture Didn't Include You With Me.

I wasn't interested in your picture,
just the pieces that (you) were missing.
the truth was laid digitally in front of me.
all i had to do was read and dream.
there wasn't a sentense i didn't take
into my veins.
the summer i stumbled to the gravel road
with tears and blood.
your overdose had me begging to a stranger.
i've lost count on how many times i've saved you
from yourself.
it could easily compare to how many times
i've had to save myself from myself,
because you couldn't do it.
and even then it was for you.
the sickness that was our love
turn into sap.
A poison that's slowly closed my veins up.
like i fell asleep in bed and woke up in a coffin.
there was no indication that i'd get
this lost.
i was so busy forgetting the big picture
that i couldn't see
that you turned me into one of your pieces.

Fantastic imagery...deep feeling and emotion..."i fell asleep in a bed and woke up in a coffin" is definitely my favorite line (what can I say? it's right up my alley) I was impressed by the tie-in at the end also. It left me wondering if the poem refers to a literal overdose or a figurative one. I like the story the poem tells about a lover you think you can change but ends up simply making you like them. If this is based on any kind of truth I hope both parties mentioned have come out safe and sound on the other side.
