A Child's Perspective

A Child's Perspective

A Poem by Madeline G

I look up and see the long legs of the table

Bang

I ran into the chairs.

I cry out

No one hears me

Over the sounds

Of the tv

I enter the living room,

That coffee table looks like it is fun to run around

Mommy scoops me up

I look at the ceiling as she drags me away

“NO!” She says

“No running in the house!”

I stare blankly at the corner I am turned towards

Why does the wall have little bumps?

After what seems like an eternity,

I am released.

I am free to play

In my room or in the back yard.

I toddle to my room

I see a ball

I throw it

My eyes follow the ball as it bounces from wall to wall

I am bored.

I go into the bathroom

There is a tiny pool in here!

It is already filled!

I jump into the tiny pool,

It’s a tight fit.

There is a little lever,

I wonder what it does

I pull the lever.

Water starts flowing out the sides of the tiny pool.

Yay!

How refreshing!

How long have we had this?

How do Mommy and Daddy fit in the pool?

Did they buy it for me?

They must have.

I toddle down the steps and show Mommy and Daddy

“Thank you for the swimming pool!” I say.

And they gasp.
