I want to hold a book burning

I want to hold a book burning

A Poem by madelene henry dowe

I want to hold a book burning.

All the books I cherished; I want to see those spiteful words go up.

The nourishment of youth squandered; light them just to hear their cries.

Pages lifted from their bindings, freed like birds shot down.

All my worries, all my past regrets.

Up in smoke and tongues of lovely heat

Curl up, feeding a suspected savior sky.

One once said that books are vessels.

Well, I'll burn the message, too.

Mainly I just want to want to be someone,

Who can exist outside the printed page.

The suit of armor hides only cobwebs.

His shield is drawn up against no danger.

I want to hold a book burning.

But really, I just want someone to stand next to me

Together being beaten by the flames.
