ConcentrationA Chapter by CharleyStar 21: Orange At 2:30 in the morning, my little brother wakes me up. Or, rather, he tries to get into my room, but I keep it locked at night. Groggily, I open the door and Keith runs in and sits down at the foot of my bed. “Hey, what’s the matter, K?” I ask, joining him on my bed. “I had a dream,” he states, looking down at his dangling feet. “Ok, what happened in the dream, bud?” I try to get him to talk. Instead, he hugs me and buries his face in my shirt. I stroke his brown hair for a while before he mumbles, “I dreamed you went away,” or something like that into my arm, not pulling away. “It’s ok bud. I’m not going anywhere for a while,” and with that, he looks up, smiles, and runs off to his room. Star 22: Yellow I can’t get back to sleep. I have tried every trick I know of, nothing helping. So, I go back to reading. I was supposed to finish this book last Friday anyway. Star 23: Black Can’t f*****g fall asleep. Merde. Star 24: Pink I guess I finally got to sleep, because I wake up again to my family rushing around upstairs, getting ready for the day. S**t. I’m usually in the shower at this time- no, scratch that. I look up at the clock and panic. It’s 7:00, I usually leave at 7:15. So, there’s not time for my usual shower and slow pace of getting ready, I quickly get dressed, grab my stuff, kiss Keith good bye, and rush to my car. Star 25: Blue I hate being in a rush. But what I hate even more is being tired at school. Being tired always makes it harder to concentrate and stay on task during class. I hate it. Luckily, we’re not doing anything really important in any class today, so it’s one of the better days to be distracted. In order to stay awake, I keep having to get up and walk around or just stand. All my teachers definitely think I’m weird now. But I am, and it’s my last year here, so who cares? Star 26: Red Once again, I am almost attacked when I get into the theatre room. Stumbling backwards, I see Tanner’s brilliant sapphire eyes, crimson hair, and scarlet lipstick. “H-hi, Tanner,” I stammer, smiling, “what’s up?” “Hi! Your shirt! I love it!” I have to look back down once again to see what I’m wearing, especially since I was in such a hurry and didn't really pay attention to what I hastily donned this morning. It’s my Marvel Comics tee. Star 27: Green “You like Marvel, too?” I ask, grinning at her. “Yeah! The Avengers are awesome!” She exclaims, surprising me even more. So far, we have a lot of the same interests. I never thought that would happen. We spend the whole class together, talking about the Avengers and NightVale, Tanner having followed me back to the shop to build scenery so our teacher doesn't get mad. She got angry the other day when we spent all class chit-chatting instead of working. Star 28: Yellow Building scenery is fun. Takes a while, but it’s fun. Especially when Tanner is helping. She truly is a theatre fairy; she’s great with tools. I think Sean is impressed, but he’s also judging us. Star 29: White I like the outdoors, so today, I decide to go hiking instead of doing homework. It’s kind of chilly out, but not intolerably so. I've always liked the cold more than the heat. Hiking gives me a chance to let my mind wander, as well as myself. As long as I can see the trail, I don’t have to think about where I’m going. Star 30: Black Because of feeling overwhelmed the other day, I actually get some homework done. I sit down, open my psych book, and instantly it feels like too much. Why did I not do this sooner? Damn it. © 2014 Charley |
