Chapter 4 : Coming Along

Jaedrian just came over. He’s here to psycho-analyze me. For all of you who don’t know, Jaedrian is my best friend. He’s also Mr. Popular, Mr. Player and Mr. Hottie in school. I’m just Mr. Bad Boy and Mr. Hottie. We’re basically in the same social circle, the populars. Not that I encourage social anarchy, at all. There are it’s benefits though. Girls come running to you left and right, geeks and nerds offer to do your homework for you, all those basic mundane little benefits.

So, apparently Sunday Summer Shae is the newest addition to our little clique. “What have you been up to, man. I hardly see you around anymore.” Jae grinned and slapped me on the back as I pounded hard on the game console. “There’s this new girl in school.” I started. “Oh, yea. Jas and the girls rounded her up. Apparently she’s popular material. A little on the weird side, if you know what I mean.” Boy, did I ever.

Jas, or Jaslyn, is Jaedrian’s twin sister. She’s the prettiest girl in the whole school. In fact, she could even be the prettiest girl in the whole world. She’s the female leader of our little group. Normally in movies, or books, the pretty girl is the mean girl. Jas isn’t like that though. She’s incredibly nice, sweet and smart. The perfect combination of everything if you ask me.

I glared at the TV screen as my thumb repeatedly pressed the tiny button to jump. "She's pretty hot, don't you think?" Jae asked.

You see, when you wanna date a girl, your best friend has to approve first. It’s the golden rule in boy-dom. Nobody breaks that rule. I guess that's Jae's way of asking if I was cool with him dating Sunday.

"I guess," I grinned. He had my approval.

On Monday, when I returned to school, I was greeted with the familiar sight of frizzy hair. “Hey.” I greeted her evenly, when inside, my organs were doing the jig. Ugh. “Hi,” she grinned. Okay, calm down Paul. Relax.

"Bye," she grinned sheepishly as we passed each other. "I’ll see you around, Sunday Summer Shae," I smirked and waved enthusiastically.

During gym, the most mislead lesson in the world, I was cornered in the boy’s locker room by none other than pug jock and his other pug-faced friends. First off, let me say that the jocks in this school, are short, ugly, and fat. With a few exceptions, of course. Second of all, they aren’t part of the populars. Just thought I’d clear it up.

Anyway, back to the problem at hand. I was cornered in the boy’s locker room with Jaedrian by my side, the both of us resembling ants whereas the jocks reminded me of tyrannosaurus’s. Not so tall ones, though. While our height gave us some leverage, (Jae and I are 6’4) we weren’t as beefy as they were.

Pug-faced jock, A.K.A. Sam, who I’m guessing is the brain of this operation, opened his mouth and sent Jae and I reeling backwards with the force of his stinky breath. The mafia had nothing on this guy. They should learn from him, don’t brush your teeth for a week, the smell will cause your victim to faint.

Turns out puggy wasn’t too happy about my befriending ‘hair’. I take it back. Puggy was freaking out about me being her friend. Something about how I was just using her and that she only agreed to gain social status. I was affirmative that the former wasn’t true, however, I couldn’t say the same for the latter.

I realized that pug-faced jock could be right. Sunday Summer Shae could have said yes because she wanted to be popular! My stupidity amazes me. Of course that’s why she said yes! I mean, what do I have over puggy here? He looks like a pug whilst I’ve been offered several modeling contracts, his breath sends people reeling over whilst mine is minty fresh, his height matches hers while I tower over her. They were meant to be!

Except, ‘hair’ does not in the least resemble a pug. She has beautiful almond-shaped eyes, and a lovely small, oval-shaped face. Her nose isn’t squishy and flat, instead, a little turned up. Her breath doesn’t stink. It smells like cinnamon.

She couldn’t possibly be the match made in heaven for puggy. They were too different! The two of us, on the other hand, (I mean Sunday Summer Shae, not pug-face) we’re totally meant to be. Friends. I mean, we compliment each other. Sure, we’ve had our tussles and fights before, but it’s all in the past, right?

I voiced those thoughts out and puggy seemed stunned. “I guess I’ve never thought of it that way,” he boomed down. Jae and I winced and backed away. “If you ever hurt her though,” pug-jock left his threat hanging in the air. I smiled sweetly and nodded. He and his fellow pugs left the room.

“That was different. I didn't even know you knew her,” Jaedrian grinned as we stepped out of the locker room and onto the field. The cheerleaders were busy doing a new cheer. Heh heh heh. They should do one about pug-faced jocks. Woohoo! Go Puggies!
