PrologueA Chapter by Madie SpartanPrologue Two years ago Jason slowly opened the door and looked in. A thin small man was sitting behind a desk at the far end of the room. "Ah! Jason! Come in!" the man said from behind the desk. Jason Wolfe walked in casually. The room was small and white. Too white, thought Jason. On the right side there were two windows, but the sun had long since set. The only light came from a fixture in the ceiling. There was nothing else up on the walls, except for a corkboard filled with papers, news clippings and pictures on the left next to the desk. Behind the desk was a map of the greater London area. The desk was piled with papers and a computer to one side. The young man behind it was Mattix. Mattix Clayborne was only twenty-four and very casual. He never really did like the 'all business' type people. He had short sandy blonde hair with brown eyes that always had a shine to them. Mattix was well built and fit. He ran everyday and worked out as much as he could. He always seemed to be in a good mood. Jason walked up to the desk where Mattix was typing away on his computer. "How's my favorite bounty hunter?" Mattix looked up from the computer and smiled. He had an American accent. Jason always wondered why had he moved to London. The bounty hunter didn't answer his question but went straight to business "What was so important that you just had to call me for?" he asked. His voice was melodious but rough at the same time. Mattix stared at Jason as though he was from another planet. Then he almost jumped out of his chair. "Right!" Mattix began to type quickly. There was a smile on his face. Jason waited impatiently as Mattix worked. Finally he stopped typing. Mattix reached down and grabbed a piece of paper coming from a printer that was on the ground. Mattix handed the piece of paper to Jason, happily, like he had just found a map to a hidden treasure. Jason took the piece of paper and looked at it. In one corner was a small black and white photo. It was of a girl. She only looked about fifteen, maybe sixteen. She was looking straight at the camera with a serious face. "Her name is Samantha." Mattix was saying. Jason read over the information on the paper. It gave out the simple information about her. Her age, hair color, eye color, where she was last seen. Jason eyed Mattix closely. "You made me come down here to show me a little girl?" Mattix leaned forward and looked at Jason intently. "This isn't just a normal little girl." Mattix leaned back onto his chair. "You should be thanking me, really, Jason. It took me forever to find just that little bit of information. She just started to become a threat to MI6." "Listen, I don't have all day. Just who is she and why are you telling me?" Jason was getting irritated. He had been called off a job to be shown some bit of information on a little girl. Mattix sigh, "Like I said, her first name is Samantha. But..." Mattix paused. He looked at Jason, who was waiting for an answer, impatiently. "I called you hear because I knew you would want to be the first one to get the job." Jason rolled his eyes. He leaned in close to Mattix over the desk and talked closely in his face. "Stop being suspenseful on me, Henry. I just called off a half million paying job because you said this was very important." Mattix gulped. He never did like his name and especially when Jason said it like that. What bugged him most was that he had never told him his real name. Mattix looked down at his desk "Her last name is..." He looked back up, "is Brown." Jason straightened up and looked at Mattix. How long had it been since he heard that name? "You sure?" Jason said after a long pause. Mattix nodded his head. "Well...It is a common name..." Mattix made a face. "Maybe you didn't look at the picture close enough." Jason looked down at the piece of paper. This Samantha Brown did look just like Marcus... But it couldn't be. "Keep me posted." With that Jason walked out. The piece of paper wrinkled in his clenched fist. Mattix sighed. Did he do the right thing? Did he stop a threat before it got bigger? Mattix looked at the picture of Samantha. How could such a young girl be such a big threat? Then Mattix remembered who her father was. The most wanted hitman in London. In England! But was it father like daughter? Maybe she didn't live that life. That didn't matter, Jason was still going to go after her. Mattix shook his head and went back to work, not worrying about Jason or Samantha. Not my job to worry, Mattix thought. All I do is give information. © 2010 Madie Spartan |
