I still remember

I still remember

A Poem by Madi
"

I wrote this free verse in the middle of the night. It talks about the stuff that followed after i lost my father in 2004

"
It was 11 years ago when you left us
I still remember the day too.
You lied there, lifeless as mom tried to bring you back to life
I still remember when we went to your funeral
Mom was holding us tight as people said their condolences I still remember moving
Florida to North Carolina to Puerto Rico then New York
Where mom found us a homeless shelter to live in
I still remember mom tearing up every time she saw us
I still remember Father's day and coming home to ask what a dad is
Because it was something my brothers and I never had.
I still remember visiting our aunt, your sister
And her crying because we look just like you.
Mom being hated by your family because they blamed her
For your constant drinking and abuse.
I still remember mom crying every December 11th,
The day we lost you
A week after my 4th birthday.
I still remember feeling anger
Towards people who said they hated their dad
Because i still remember going to bed every night
Wishing you were still here
