mirrorblues

A Poem by Matthew Young

i look in the mirror
and see myself as someone
i'm unsure of
an unfamiliar friend
distant and reduced to
nothing multiplied by infinity
bare chested with necklace
and eyes far gone from
where you were
and where i am is some place
south of nowhere and close
to the sun
so close that i can feel
its warmth penetrate these
demons inside
causing them to shuffle
and stir at the worst moments
but now they're silent
in front of this mirror
they must be sleeping
and dreaming of night
to fall so they can get
to work
