The alarm's crude yell
disrupts my escape from reality.
I've been cheated, betrayed by time's Fast climb to consciousness. No light peeks from window cracks To help me along. House dead, silence tempting. The atmosphere outside so uninviting, So solitary. Pillows and mattress progress into Pure comfort and perfection, enslaving me more. Rocks rest on my eyelids, taunting. Can life pause, allow more time? Can day's leash be yanked back awhile? The clock presents new hour, Precious time has taken flight. Finally, I depart -- life's biggest battle won. Choices, decisions find me, Though I hid. Oblivion a temporary blessing. Day is anxious to greet me once again.
life's biggest battle won..ha, it's very true sometimes...why do our beds feel the most comfortable when we have to leave...hmm...relationship metaphor there... dramatic, yes, true, very...great read here.
I love coffee in the morning, but I HATE it when you get out of bed. You just want to be lazy and fall back to sleep, even though there's this part of you knows you can't, because the day ahead is already calling you, but there's this slight part that hopes you'll be in bed all day. Such a rude awakening, huh.

This is a funny truth for many of us.
You lead my mind to wonder how I can change my focus to view each morning as a call to celebrate another adventure.
I am trying to ask myself two questions when I experience negativity on my mind.
1. What else (positive) could could this mean for me?
2. Can I give meaning to this situation that will empower me?
It really works well when I am disciplined enough to actually do it.
I get it though... Humor and real life situations...

I like the way you look at things, it's inspiring! Thank you for the comment.
thank goodness for that "snooze" button as I hit it several times before finally getting outta bed... love these lines: "Pillows and mattress progress into
Pure comfort and perfection, enslaving me more. " and the next one, "Rocks rest on my eyelids, taunting." This is nice imagery and allows the reader to also be taunted and wanting to pull up the covers...
enjoyed reading your poem Madeline..

You have a smooth style of writing. I like the questions you ask. It seems like there's never enough time for anything in life. Nicely done.
