Left Awake

Left Awake

A Poem by Madeline

Tonight, the day refuses to give me to the dark.

I lay awake, fully conscious.
But can sense the loosening grip of
Day on my arm.
Please, hand me over already!
Have I not fulfilled my day's obligations?
Have I not heard everything the day needed to say?
Well then, I lay here, willing the light to
Finish speaking, but find no words.

It is precarious, to be so awake at such a
Late time.
For all distractions are absent,
And one is left alone with just thoughts.
So, please, give me the company of sleep.

The late night is passionate,
And I have fallen head over heels.
