5 Minutes

5 Minutes

A Poem by Maddi Snowden

It's like you've been gone for 5 minutes.
My mind knows that you walked out
years ago but every time
you come around and let my name
roll off of your tongue my heart
begins to feel like you left 5 minutes ago.
But then these 5 minutes turn into
hours, then days, then weeks, then months,
and suddenly I'm wondering what life
with you was like because you've been gone
for so long.
And before I can pick up the pieces and
try to stitch the open wound left
infected by your poisonous words,
you waltz in and remind me
why I left it open in the first place.

Extremely well penned. I like the entire feel and motion of this piece. Indeed it does at times feel like 5 minutes when one who has been gone for so long knocks on that front door again. The heart does open for many reasons, but every once in a while it remains closed.

I am saving this one in my favorites.

You're most welcome
has that feel good moments in the lines...
your occurring theme of 5 minutes...
and then the clincher in the last stanza...
puts everything back into perspective...
