Untitled No. 9

A Poem by Maddi Snowden

I really hate the way
that the words
"I miss you" can
roll so easily off
your delicate tongue.

As if I haven't spent countless
hours in my mind
retracing where things went
wrong and playing connect
the dots trying to understand
why you say those three words
and then fail to act upon them.

As if I haven't wasted time
thinking about if you miss me
or my body and wondering if
maybe things would have been
different if I hadn't been so
trustworthy in the arms of
a complete stranger.

But why do I care?

You were just some boy who
never learned my last name.
