No Expectations for "Great Expectations"A Story by Jasmine A. MackMy review/life application to Charles Dicken's novel "Great Expectations"
I recently was forced to read Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. I realize that my teacher made us read this because it will be on the SAT but I still hated every moment of it. I'm not one who appreciates romance novels containing no explosions or thrilling plots and at the point in time when I read this, I despised old english. From the moment I saw this novel, I immediately had no expectations. Every time I read this book I felt like tearing it into tiny pieces. I felt like it would never end. It just kept shooting random, "unimportant" information at me. Just as I was about to give up and just throw it all away, the book started to pull together the pieces of the puzzle. Somehow all the characters were tied together in some way, some how! I turned the last page of this book feeling mildly depressed at it's odd ending, but held a great appreciation for its theme and lessons. As for the old english, well... Let's say you'll read about how that "helped" me later in my writing projects. For now all I can say to those who read this is, don't judge a book by it's cover and you can definitely have great expectations for "Great Expectations".
