Woman on the TrainA Poem by MacciolaWritten 11/30/16When you glance at the stranger on the other train that’s slowly going away from you, you get a sense of loneliness Like she’s leaving and she doesn’t know of your existence, which she doesn’t, but you didn’t know of hers either The way she stared out of her dark tinted sunglasses to the morning sky somehow gave a feeling of alienation and being forgotten when it was impossible to be remembered It’s like, for only a moment, you were watching a goodbye that you never knew existed She appeared, was there, and you watched her go And you’re not hurt, but you dislike the taste it leaves in your mouth She’s done this before, or she will do it, but she’s ready by her proud stance and unmournful sunglassed glare You will never know her, and before you know it, she’s gone
