the color red

the color red

A Poem by mae

red.
it was all red.
like a well known page
or a tilted stage
it was all red.
and they'd try to write sonnets with it
notes glistening scarlet song
but no matter how they twisted it
it was never going to reflect anything beautiful.
and it wasn't beautiful.
it was just red.

Red, the colour of danger, the colour of remembrance and the colour of love. And the play on words between red and read. Dear mae, this little poem transported me to many places and many situations. Unlike your words stated though, I did find a little beauty amid the danger and sorrow. A thought provoking poem.

and red represents criticism and bad grades and sad students...
does someone grade our lives in red?
are we failing at midterm...?
is there a hope of passing...of creating something beautiful out of the red.
I got through stop signs (they are read) because as Steven Wright says, "I don't believe everything I read"--this poem made me blush...oh, that is read and red as well.
