A poem about the journey of self-discovery, searching for answers, and realizing that maybe who we are isn’t something to find, but something we become along the way.

Lost In a Maze

I got lost in a maze while I tried to find myself,

followed every winding turn, every shadowed shelf,

thinking each path held the key to some truth,

some hidden version of me, uncaptured in youth.

Walls rose higher, corners turned tight,

and I ran through the dark, chased by fragments of light,

caught in a spiral of echoes and fears,

wondering if I’d know myself after all these years.

Every path felt like a piece I should claim,

a shape I should fit, a whisper of my name.

But the more that I searched, the further I roamed,

leaving pieces of me in places I’d combed.

And then, in the silence, I stopped on my own,

tired of racing, of running alone,

and I realized perhaps I am not meant to chase

some perfect version, lost in a maze.

Maybe I am the wandering, the paths that I choose,

the questions, the answers, the things I might lose.

Maybe finding myself is less of a place,

and more of a journey I am learning to face.

So I breathe in the stillness, let the maze stay,

accept that I’m here, that I’ll find my own way.

For even if I’m lost, I’m somewhere unknown,

perhaps that is the place I am most truly my own.
