Peace on EarthA Story by Mashoosh KatebAlmost Fifty years of peace on earth. A fraction of humanity’s time on earth. The ones under pointy hoods now friends with humans of darker shades. Wearers of skull caps, rosaries and yarmulkes now working toward a common cause. Bias disappeared, discrimination extinguished. All it took was an impending doom. Sure when the news first came, all hell broke loose but then the dust settled. With too many lives already lost, we saw there was no way out and not much time left. So we shook hands, rolled up our sleeves and got to work. It required as many as were left to quell the source of the dehumanizer. We were graced with a few decades to prepare and for every second we did. It brought us closer, made us one. It took two generations to do what we had to do. A new generation born in peace, free from the baggage we carried. They heard lore of hatred and fear from us and our fathers. Mouth agape and struck by awe, they would say them to each other just as a scare. They eventually took over of what we started. Diligently and dedicatedly put every remaining piece in place. With only a few months left to see our results they came to us with lowered heads. We were told by our sons and daughters that it didn’t work. The impending doom was not averted. They were disappointed and tired but this we said. We did make something that we didn’t in a few millenniums. We came as many but die as one. © 2015 Mashoosh KatebAuthor's Note
