Journey Through Another World

Journey Through Another World

A Story by Miles W.

portrait story for my class, decided to share

You have been through so much.  You just lost your mother in a freak accident, and you don’t know how you can go on living. Suddenly your childhood toy comes to life and reveals to you the existence of another world where you could save your mother.   You have found a whole other world completely different than the one you grew up with.  As you look out across the vast landscape, you immediately think of the stories that you read as a child.  You can see vegetation for as far as the eye can see, animals that never existed in your world, and cities with people that look similar to those from your world, but all have vast differences.  You can smell the freshness of the air, not yet clogged by pollution.  But before you can enjoy this, you are reminded that you are here to save this world from destruction.  As you look out however, you can’t help but feel like you have not simply journeyed to another world, but rather like you were entering a world of your imagination.  It is a world of magic spells, strange beasts, and evil spirits that attempt to get in your way.  But unlike your imagination, it is very possible for you to die during this journey.  You keep pushing forward however, because there is a chance that you can still save the only family that you have.  All the people tell you that you are the chosen one destined to save this doomed world, but your motivation doesn’t come from that, it comes from the fact that you can save the one person in your life you feel you can’t live without.  So push on and journey through another world, and I will keep an eye on you.  After all, how can I not keep an eye on you?  You’re the main character of this game, and I’m the one playing it.

Well, my criticism would have to be that it's not a poem! It's a prose story in 2nd person. If you wanted to form it into a poem, you'd have to think about restructuring it using some metre, and possibly rhyme, half-rhyme or vowel rhyme.

You should be able to find some inspiration for common metres here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metre_(poetry)
