Wildflowers

Wildflowers

A Poem by Matt
"

Sometimes memories hit you at the strangest times in life.

"

Wildflowers dancing in the breeze:

Daises, clover, poppies, and baby’s breath.

The sweet scent fills my nose

And reminds me of a memory I cannot forget.

You and I in the delicate sunshine

Running through fields laced with wildflowers,

Chasing down the dwindling days,

Forgetting our cares for hours and hours.

A soft southern wind blew through the field,

But I could only notice the way it drifted

Lazily through your brown hair.

Warm, orange sunlight caressed your tanned skin.

You always loved the way it warmed you to the core

And made you feel safe and secure.

I prayed that one day I could be your sun

And you would take me everywhere you ventured.

I wanted my love to warm your soul

And my arms to hold you close

And my kisses to make you weak in the knees.

I wanted us to be like wildflowers in the breeze.

But those are just memories that haunt my dreams

And remind me of a time when happiness was right beside me.

I resonated with this poem so easily Matt, it had such a romantic natural sentiment to it, I felt it was universal. I've read 100s of poems like this, but this piece didn't bore me at all - which shows you have considerable skill.
