The Desert

The Desert

A Poem by Matt
"

A description of a dream I had recently.

"
Walking through the desert with the
sun beating down upon my bare skin.
A southwest wind gusts at my back.
It feels like a hot, dry hair dryer.
Drops of sweat fall off my entire body
and make marks in the dehydrated ground.
Particles of sand that are picked up by the wind
are thrown like bullets onto my back, legs, and arms.
My mouth feels like it is full of cotton.
Scratchy and dry, my throat cannot make a sound.
I'm drowning in this endless valley,
surrounded by emptiness and a blinding light.
Mirages appear in front of my face.
Wonderful delusions that trick my mind
into another place.
A highway appears, but it is simply an apparition.
There is no end in sight.
I'm completely and utterly alone and left to die.
