Distance

Distance

A Poem by M J Hutton

I feel the cold breeze
Thrown,
From the cold cast sea before me
Whose morning waves
Lisp,
Against the atmosphere......
The warmth
Of day beckons
Yet I'm alone,
Chilled, by my solitude
Deflated by
My ineptitude
To cope,
With your loss.......
Breaking on the horizon,
The golden orb
Glows in the darkness
Incandescent
Without remorse
Doomed to self destruct
Eight million years from now
And me,
Alone in front of God's art work
His sketch of beauty and solitude.
A testament to his glory
Our father who art in heaven
Shelter me from despondency
Shivering from the chill
I heat myself with thoughts of you
Closing my eyes
Just to see your face
An attempt to nullify my aching
And yearning,
Here, on the other side of the globe
But,
To no avail
You are rooted deep inside.
A constant reminder
Of everything beautiful,
Aesthetically unchallenged, you move in circles
Reserved for the Angels
As I cling,
To what we had
On the far side of the world,
The sand beneath my feet mocks
The broken stick in my hand cuts
The treasure of memory is a curse
When all I want is you......
