Incoming storm

Incoming storm

A Poem by M J Hutton

 The distant storm gathers momentum,

Chiding the pale white sunset into

Feeble submission –

Sitting potently on the town’s skyline,

Yellow adders of lightening are

Accompanied by,

Drum rolls of thunder,

That nullifies the sultry stuffy climate

That has stifled the population

Like a shrub desperate for rain –

Windows and doorways light incandescently,

Flickering and blinking in the electrical onslaught –

It could be a scene from the apocalypse,

As the sinners seek refuge in shop doorways,

Scattering like spectres in a cemetery,

Running blind, without a concern for others –

I wish she were here,

Here next to me, looking out at the

Incoming weather, portent and aggressive,

Brutal yet magnificent –

But she is not –

And I cannot believe

How another individual can

Make you feel –

I cannot fathom or comprehend,

How empty and vacant,

Someone’s absence can leave you –

And although I am heavy

With a pensive brow,

I have immense comfort, knowing

I will see you again,

Quite soon –
