What lovers do

What lovers do

A Poem by M J Hutton

What lovers do

Say things they know

Could never be true

Like me and you.

What lovers do

Make promises,

They know they can’t fulfil

Like me and you.

What lovers do

Always fall prey

To a jealous game

Like me and you.

What lovers do

Direct hostile words

In a belligerent rage

That’s me and you.

But here I am

Crushed, broken, naked

With outstretched hands

Here I am.

Here I am

Crucified upon a cross

Of loves demands

Your cruel demands.

Here I am.
