Bookies

Bookies

A Poem by M J Hutton

He gets up from his seat in the bookies

And strides resolutely over to the glass,

He slides a tenner under the counter

Attempting to retrieve his day’s loss.

He faces the screens on the far wall

Ready for the racing to start,

He screws up his slip in anger

When the horse he backed strolls in last.
