Farewell my love, farewell

Farewell my love, farewell

A Poem by M J Hutton

Farewell my love

For I must leave

Leave your warm

Succulent embrace,

And head back to my

Estate  -

My home of used syringes

Over filled bin chutes

Noisy neighbours amid

Consternations –

Farewell my love,

Farewell.

Farewell my love,

For I must go

Go and catch the

Last bus home,

Back to my domain

That repels and destroys

That makes me want to

Flee, get up and

Leave, maybe see the world

Try and breathe,

Farewell my love,

Farewell.

Farewell my love

I must return,

Return to the streets

So far from yours

Streets where my friends

Laughed and died

Avenues and roads

Of police car patrols

Farewell my love,

Farewell.

Farewell my love

I must go

For I am ashamed of

The scars across my belly

For I long to escape

My council house semi –

I’m scared about the man

I may one day become

Due to my peers

And aggressive nature

Farewell my love,

Farewell.

Farewell my love

I must leave,

I’ve got off

The night bus,

And ran to my front

Door, too high

On your love,

To confront any

Potential muggers,

I hope Dad’s asleep

Cos he likes a row

Thinks he’s tougher

Than me and me pals

Farewell my love,

Farewell.

Farewell my love,

I must go

Because our class

Differential has

Caught up with us,

Our diverse backgrounds

Has run out of luck,

Your old man plays

Piano,

Mine drives trucks

Farewell my love,

Farewell.

Farewell my love,

I must leave

For I’m tired of your

Friends berating me,

Bored with the jibes

You’re too good for me

Sick of the tirade

Of my lunacy

When all I desire

Is your company

Farewell my love,

Farewell.

Farewell my love,

I must leave,

Even though you held

Me and called me unique

When I believed I was a

Confused, aggressive freak,

And how someone like you

Could fathom and refine

My unstable nature

The turmoil inside,

Farewell my love,

Farewell.

Farewell my love

I must leave

We will never

Kiss again,

In disused war shelters,

Or get caught shagging

On a train,

As it pulls up

In the station,

Walk in the park

In the summer solstice,

Or lie on the grass

By the old round tower,

So farewell my love,

Farewell.

Farewell my love,

I must leave,

We will never again

Stand on equal footings,

I will never gaze

Into your eyes again,

Stroll through the

Shopping centre and

Turn the shoppers heads,

Take cover in the rain

Between shop doorways,

Never hold you in my

Arms and wish for that

Second not to end,

Never watch you

Awake, and smile

At me, stroke my face

Touch my lips,

And prey that

The moment would

Pause for eternity

Farewell my love.

Farewell.
