My Resting PlaceA Poem by lyss
What I love most about snorkeling is the feeling of weightlessness.
The deeper you get the less alone you feel. When i'm pulling myself through the water I like to close my eyes and it feels like i'm taking a deep breath A warm breath and when i breathe in my lungs fill not with water, but with a heaviness that reminds me of being wrapped in a blanket. You don't feel the cold when you are that deep under water. The pressure of the ocean becomes like a lullaby Reminding you that the world outside Will never matter. You become aware that you are breathing The slow, full breaths of the sea Not filled with air But rather a sweetness that leaves you craving more. And so you dive Deeper and farther Searching for a way to never surface A way to stay in the peaceful bed We call the ocean. How could one ever crave the warmth of the sun When they have the comfort of the water? The ocean is a novel filled with stories, Stories that if you listen it will tell you. But you have to go deeper. Give yourself to the stillness Sink to the bottom and rest your head on a pillow of sand. You look up and see, The ever changing surface above you A glimmer of light, a flash of green. You take a deep breath And then you know. You've found home.
