Flavors of Shade

Flavors of Shade

A Poem by Indra's Child

I watch a shadow crawl over my ceiling.

It really crawls, with tendrils seeking new ground to cover,

A great patch of life that seems inevitable,

Likened to the shelf-life of a good lover,

Now undercovers,

They sell what they seek, Machiavellian tendencies,

Orchestrated against the forces of open territories,

Forbidding sighs of pleasure with a curt not to the horizon,

Feeling fleeting foes, now fallen,

Like leaves on the surface of a pond frozen,

Forces me to wonder if, indeed, I put the fire out.

Some disturbing thought in the mind seems like a shadow on the ceiling. Perhaps some unresolved emotions. Lines of the poem which suggest helplessness in the 'great patch of life'.That you love so much but it is still not enough, it can be short lived. This might lead to cunning ways to get what one wants ,,'machiavellian tendencies'. The last line is very deep 'put the fire out' ..could the poet be the one who chose to end the relationship!! Very nicely written poem.
