What I love about TexasA Poem by SonyaI was going on a trip to Austin (my home town) and had just learned my first 3 chords on the geetar and decided to write a song about TexasIn Texas the cicadas Sing so beautifully In their little family chorus Hiding up in the trees
They're singing really well They're swaying in the breeze But that's not what I love about Texas
In Texas it'll stay one hundred degrees for forty days You can take a million showers Never wash the sweat away
Yeah, the heat is pretty bad There's not much water anyway But that's not what I hate about Texas
The cicadas shed their skins To cool their violins And all the cool kids wear them On their T-shirts like a pin
Now I love those little bugs And the heat has always been The bain of my existence It defeated all my whims Now thermometers aside And insects blowin' in the wind That's not how I feel about Texas
I don't know my ethnic origin Or much about my family But I know that I'm from Texas And the coolest city
The cicadas and the heat Shaped my personality And that's what I love about Texas © 2008 Sonya |
