The Rest of My Life

The Rest of My Life

A Poem by Undeniable Truth

If tomorrow I were to die
and in my casket lie
Today I would call you
just to say hi.

I would ask to come see you
just to see your face
that smile one last time
and converse without haste

I'd give you a tight hug
and a kiss on your head
i'd ask you to pray for me
for tomorrow I'll be dead.

I'd take you to the place
where we first met
because life is no game
There is no reset.

I'd treat you like a lady
better yet a queen.
I'd be your gentleman
and I would show you what I mean.

I'll open your doors
and take off your coat
pull out your chair
to make your heart float.

I would tell you that I love you
like many times before
but this time will be different
because I won't be here to say it anymore

So I'll say it a certain way
not in a shout but a whisper
so that you always treasure the quiet moments
even in the lonliness of winter

its amazing how the end
of one's years though few
can make you snap to attention
and change your point of view

now I see whats important
I wish you to become my wife
because whether only for a day or decades
it is with you that I want to spend the rest of my life.
