stereotypes

stereotypes

this is a blunt POV from the eyes of an urban 17 yr old... one of my oldies but goodies lol

Sometimes we just feed in to rumors and unconditional stereotypes.

Some people say OJ did it. That the black man did kill his white wife.

But why do we continue to prejudge if we don’t want it done to us?

If everybody talks behind our backs, then who can we really trust?
there’s just a state of paranoia, especially between blacks and whites.

I walk on the street and see the fear in their eyes, like I automatically have no sense of wrong and right.

But I must admit I do it too. It seems like they have no lives.

I think some white women watch soap operas with tea, or act like the Jane Does on that show desperate housewives.

If you notice, these stereotypes come from the main things that we see.

Like white men that bombed certain places and when drugs was found on the black mayor of D.C.

It seems like minorities are at times dismissed as ex cons

After 9/11, some people thought that every person of Middle Eastern descent was part of the Taliban.

But there are many things that shock us. And now I’ve figured out why.

They don’t fit the stereotypes on which we rely.

Like the Bill Clinton fiasco which led to his demise.

But if the man was really black, it wouldn’t have been a surprise.

It came as a shock to many that the white man finally knew,

That what the main wife wouldn’t, the woman on the side would do.

It’s expected of the black man, but for Bill, “Oh his morals were bent.”

That’s why he’s beloved by us and known today as the first black president.

And with the D.C. sniper, don’t get me started, everybody thought it was one of your typical crazy white men.

The police were even looking for a male with light skin.

But the man was blacker than night, popping off in the light of day

All because of a dispute that with his wife, he couldn’t have his way.

And speaking of popping off, what about the kid in Columbine?

Teasing the poor kid where they messed up his mind.

But the part that makes me angry is how toward the stereotype people flee

It wouldn’t be that serious if it was in Compton or NYC.

It’s almost like since I live in the city, no one cares about me.

And Eminem said, “Look where it’s at. Middle America. Now it’s a tragedy. Now it’s so sad to see.”

Not every urban youth is ghetto. Not every suburbian is a naïve fool

Not every black male refers to a woman as a female dog or garden tool.

Now I know that everybody here knows that stereotypes aren’t true

But we prove we still believe them in the things that we do

Not every white person is proper. Not every black person is ghetto.

Because Eminem is vulgar. Martin Luther king won a medal.

I wish the world was just that we could be who we are.

And not be prejudged by our skin, status and car.

If i may my friend, this is a true work of art.
In both a Grammatical, and a creative sense.
The flow, and rhyme were spot on, but thats not what had me reading it over again.
The sheer fact of the message behind this, and the power in which you conveyed it with simple words is amazing.

I look forward to reading more of your work!
