The Ogre In The Bottle

The Ogre In The Bottle

A Poem by Lynn's Poems

She hides behind the bottle
To block the pain away
And thinks that she’s in control
But needs it every day
Her hands begin to tremble
She says she’s having FUN
Excuses tumble from her mouth
But the drink does overcome!

She says she’s not dependant
And says that she can quit
The only reason that she drinks
Is for the HELL of it
Her marriage starts to suffer
A sickness starts to show
More fiery and defiant
Then the Ogre begins to grow!

Her children fear this person
Who’s different with the booze
The alien life which they lead
Is not what they did chose!
Late at night when she returned
Their Mum had been replaced
Into this wicked Ogre
With no feelings upon her face!

The marriage ends in adultery
By the evil things she’s done
Leaving all her children behind
A new chapter has now begun
All their minds felt sickened
Knowing that she never cared
This alcoholic destiny
Was all that their Mum would share!

How beautiful she used to look
Now she’s aged beyond belief
Barred from all the pubs in the town
Sick and bitter is this Lady of grief
Never thinking she’s done wrong
But inside her children's head
The day she got hooked by the habit
Is the time that her love became DEAD!

Poor sweet and shattered Angels
Broken into small pieces of glass
Abused by the alcoholic Ogre
The memory of this always lasts
If you can relate to this story
Father, Mother, Child, Brother or friend
Get some help before it’s too late
Say goodbye and you’ll win in the END!

That was awesome. My wife and I have been fighting the urge to drink, because we know how it can mess things up. We are doing OK and fall asleep more easily now. We didn't get to Ogre stage, but I can see how easy it could be. Your poem is a great warning.

THIS IS MARVELOUS! reading every line my mind kept desiring for more! covered in encrypted metaphors but easily elucidated...i am not an addict in terms of booze and vodka and alike but more of a milkshake individual and after reading this i will never detour to such path!
