Easter Morn

As the sun’s first rays streak the sky

and darkness recedes from the light,

as the truth turns slowly on a promise,

our lives are revealed in your sight.

If we could but see as you see,

right into the hearts of all men;

and forgive all the evil we find there

with a love which never will end…

If we could but hear as you hear,

all the prayers and the questions and pleas;

and know that these supplicant doubters

will also your blessings receive…

If we could feel as you felt,

the pain and the heartache intense;

and still forgive and speak out

to your father in their defense,

we might know that the promise we seek

was fulfilled on that first Easter morn

when the death which we watched on the cross

fled from the Savior reborn!
