A Faithful Friend

A Faithful Friend

A Poem by Ruth Y. Nott

I can talk to you

when no other wants to hear.

I can lay on you

my burdens and my fears.

I can ask of you

provision for my needs.

I can seek forgiveness

for all my wrongful deeds.

You are a faithful friend,

so loyal and so true.

You’ll never let me down

if I but trust in you.

You are Father, Mother, God,

Son, and Holy Spirit.

You are the mighty wind.

Allow us, Lord, to hear it!

All you require of us

is to simply do your will…

to love our fellow man

and all his needs fulfill,

to honor and obey

your guidance and your Word,

to listen when you speak

and remember all we’ve heard,

to walk the straight and narrow path

lest we should go astray,

to seek you out on bended knee

and take the time to pray,

to follow those commandments

which you have etched in stone

and expect your kind salvation

when one day you take us home.
