Same OldA Poem by lydieI look into the mirror, my sad eyes, And promise to change and become new, To not tell anymore small or huge lies, To say “Please,” and “Thank you.” I promise to be a new person, kind, To not be angry or go astray, To stop being unrefined, To be reshaped like clay. But, with a shock, I know, That I will not change overnight, That I will not be mature and glow, That in just one day I will stop acting out of spite. I am just going to be the same old, Same old person trying to hide my flaws, Same old person trying to be gold, Trying to fix an old wound with gauze. Everyone is trying to change, But it’s so hard at times, Myself trying to rearrange, To conceal and stop my crimes. So much pressure and stress, Tears clean the soul so I cry, Yet, I try so hard to be emotional less, But the tears come with a deep sigh. I feel so alone and estranged, Everyone angry, yells, and doubts, I shrink into myself, deranged, Everything bad in me sprouts. I am just going to be the same old, Same old person trying to hide my flaws, Same old person trying to be gold, Same old, same old. © 2016 lydieAuthor's Note
