Chapter 2: The Missing Mother

Chapter 2: The Missing Mother

A Chapter by lydie

"RACHEL McGANOFF!" Mrs. McGanoff appeared out the door and walked slowly over to Rachel. Rachel couldn't have cared less. She felt strangely at peace, but had the need to pet Izzie. Rachel whistled and yelled "Come", and Izzie rushed out the still open door just before it slammed shut. Izzie arrived next to Rachel before Mrs. McGanoff did. When Rachel started to scratch Izzie behind the ears, she felt a strange surge of energy. She felt powerful, and peaceful at the same time. She felt intense. Amazing. At one with nature. Izzie whined softly and licked Rachel's face repeatedly, as the feeling became stronger.
"Rachel. You utterly destroyed 2 of Richard's favorite games! What do you have to say for yourself?" Rachel said nothing. "Exactly. Just as I thought!"
Rachel tuned her 'mother' out and concentrated on the energetic feeling. It seemed to be at its high, the maximum it could go. It was interesting though. It wasn't trying to flood out, pressuring Rachel into letting it go somehow. It was just letting itself known that it was there. Rachel tuned back in to her mother.
"...So, essentially, you are grounded for a week. Rachel, are you even listening to me?" Mrs. McGanoff ran her hand through her wavy blond hair that was so blond, it was a shiny white. Rachel nodded absently. "Good. Now get inside right now. And no dinner for a week!" That caught Rachel's attention.
"What! You can't do this to me! Its the week of my birthday!" Rachel seemed to be saying that a lot these days. The 'feeling', that Rachel decided to call it 'green energy', was giving her confidence and courage. "You know what, Mother? You are just an imbecile that bullies your own child! Why do you do that, huh? Do you just need somebody to pick on?"
Mrs. McGanoff jumped back and winced at the same time, in surprise. Rachel was just as shocked, and bit her tongue in case any more outbursts wanted to come out.
"Davis! Come out here!" Mrs. McGanoff yelled at the open window on the second floor. Mr. McGanoff stuck his head out the window and looked at Mrs. McGanoff.
"What, Corinne? I'm busy looking at one of my client's files."  Mr. McGanoff shouted back.
"Just come down here Davis."
Rachel rolled her eyes discreetly, as she always did whenever she could. Rachel realized just as Mr. McGanoff burst outside, that those questions she asked were from deep in her heart. For as long as she could remember that her family was mean and unjust with her. Rachel wanted to ask the same questions to her Father and Richard!
"Yes, Corinne?" Mr. McGanoff said. Mrs. McGanoff explained everything, and they didn't answer any of Rachel's questions. As Mrs. McGanoff held very tightly onto Rachel's shoulder to guide her along back to Rachel's room, Rachel threw back her head and screamed, "WHERE IS MY REAL, KIND, AWESOME FAMILY!" Rachel then mumbled, "Well, I bet that they would be really kind, if I could meet them."
"Your father and all cousins, grandparents, aunts, and uncles are dead. You have no siblings." Mr. McGanoff said monotonously. 'It's so unfair! He always says that.' Rachel thought. But while Rachel was pushed into the mansion by her Mother, she noticed something weird. 'Father didn't mention my real mom! If she is not dead, where is she?'
