Fairy Horses Part 1

Fairy Horses Part 1

A Story by lydie

Text Box: The Fairy HorsesThere are 4 types of Fairy Horses. The Air Fairy Horse, the Earth Fairy Horse, the Water Fairy Horse, and the Fire Fairy Horse. You know what type of type of Fairy Horse you are by what type your mother is. When your Fairy Horse baby is one year old, The Fairy Horse Trainers will help your Fairy horse. Master Yung Chow is the Earth Fairy Horse Trainer, Blaze Char is the Fire Fairy Horse Trainer, Tsunami Drop is the Water Fairy Horse Trainer, and Mare Wind is the Air Fairy Horse Trainer. One day, 4 fairy horses were born at the exact same second, minute, hour, day, month, and year. And, the 4 mothers that were pregnant were friends. So one day, before all the baby fairy horses' first birthday, all the mother fairy horses went to Apollo, a gray, saggy skinned horse with white splotches on his back, a black mane, and a white arrow from the tip of his mane to his snout. Even though The Elders were the wisest Fairy horses in the village, Apollo was the oldest Fairy Horse in the village. Apollo was also the village's fortune-teller. So the 4 mothers gently kicked the door of Apollo's eerie den. Then, Apollo quietly said, "Come in, mothers. I have been expecting you for a long time."  The 4 mothers came in and nudged the door with their snouts to close it. "If you have been expecting us, you must know why we're here." snorted the Earth Horse mother.  "Yes, actually." Apollo replied. "Even though you know why we're here," the Fire Horse mother belched flames. "We will ask the question again. We need to know if our children will take part in The Royal Prophecy." Apollo did not seem surprised. "You are very caring mothers, I know that. I am sworn to secrecy. I will not tell anyone that you came tonight. This is The Royal Prophecy:  Four children will be born at the same time, 1 Earth, 1 Fire, 1 Water, 1 Air. These 4 will go on a quest to save humanity and the Fairy Horse race from the Night Mares. These 4 will master their skills and powers and if they succeed, they will become the Quadruple Queens, and usher Fairy Horse Land into light.  That one?" Apollo answered. "Yes." replied all 4 mothers in unison. Apollo nodded his head. "In that case, yes. That is all the information I can give you! Even I don’t know everything." The 4 mothers bowed their heads in a goodbye. "Thank you for everything." "You too." The 4 mothers nudged the door open, walked out, closed the door silently, and galloped as fast as they could to their home. "I really do hope that those 4 children succeed to save our and those puny humans' world." Apollo sighed.

Chapter 1

The next day, the 4 mothers took their children to the park, to celebrate the children's first birthday. The Earth Fairy Horse mother sprouted a golden apple tree above them at will to celebrate, the Fire Fairy Horse made a very cozy, warm controlled fire, the Air Fairy Horse mother cleared the skies of clouds and wind, and the Water Fairy Horse mother made a lovely lake in front of their eyes with the help of the Earth Fairy Horse mother to clear up a large amount of dirt and land. As the baby fire horse roasted a golden apple on the fire, the Air Fairy Horse declared: "I've decided to name my baby ‘Tornado’."  "Me too." said the Fire Fairy Horse mother, Hearth." I have decided to call my baby ‘Fiery. "   "I have decided to call my cute foal 'Soil', for she will learn the Earth's power and soil is rich and important in the Life Cycle. She is so important to me that she is needed in my life cycle!" mentioned the Earth Fairy Horse mother. "I will name my baby Whirlpool. I will name her this because I believe she will be so powerful that she will master The Whirlpool Blaze Attack!" The other 3 mothers gasped. "You really believe that, Droplet?" gasped the Air Fairy Horse mother. "Yes, Cyclone. Or do you doubt me? I suggest that since the Night Mares will come soon, we must have as much hope as we can. Or do you have a better idea, Cyclone?" The Air Fairy Horse mother shook her head and muttered." I was hoping the prophecy was not true…" Everyone gasped. "Cyclone." the Earth Fairy Horse mother, Rose, said coldly. "You know you cannot defy the prophecy." Suddenly, the golden apple tree withered and died. Storm clouds hid the sun. The warm fire flickered out. The clear lake turned into a muddy, brown swamp of a lake. Suddenly, warm but harsh winds whipped up. Hearth, Cyclone, Droplet, and Rose's ears perked up, their nose up, sniffing for danger. Then, they caught a whiff of the danger.  "Come on, Fiery. You can finish your golden apple later!" called Hearth. Fiery too could see there was danger coming. She dropped her apple and galloped over to her mother. "Tornado! We must bring you to safety! Come on!" Cyclone yelled over the wind. Tornado hesitantly got to her feet and bounded to Cyclone. "Whirlpool. COME ON!!!" Droplet screamed, trying to make herself heard over the wind that now became cold and loud. Hearing the urgency in her mother's voice, Whirlpool bolted from her spot to Droplet. The wind was so loud and fast now, that Rose had to use telepathy to get Soil's attention. When all 4 mothers had their children they galloped as fast as they could to the Storm Shelter, or S.S. Even though storms as harsh as this rarely happened, the S.S was always prepared. When the 4 mothers and 4 children reached the shelter, they could barely open the metal door. It was already packed with Fairy Horses! Even the Elders! All 8 Fairy Horses went in and tightly closed the door. The Elders did the roll call, or attendance. "Now that everyone is here," Manticore Dung, an Earth Fairy Horse, the owner of the S.S, declared," We may go underground for the sheltering part." He kicked the wall opposite of the door 3 times with his front, right hoof. Manticore Dung was a gray Fairy Horse. Suddenly, a very cleverly hidden door slid upward. The door was big enough to fit three adult Fairy Horses side-by-side in the doorway. A few seconds later there were a lot of hooves clopping on the linoleum tile floor. Droplet, Cyclone, Rose, Hearth, Fiery, Whirlpool, Tornado, and Soil were one of the last ones to get into the real underground shelter. It was very tightly packed, even for a decently small village.

After a few hours in the S.S, Fiery trudged to Soil and whined, "I'm hungry…” "Me too!!" Soil said angrily. Then, Fiery and Soil loped over to Whirlpool and Tornado and whined again; "We want food!!" "Us too!" Whirlpool agreed. So all four sprinted to Rose. Fiery spoke up first. "WE WANT FOOD!! WE WANT FOOD!!" yelled Fiery. "Shush, children, sh. Go over to Hearth and she will give you food." So all 4 children galloped to Hearth and whined in unison, "We're hungry! PLEASE!!" Then, Hearth gave each child a blood-red apple to crunch on. Just as Tornado took his fourth bite, the cleverly hidden door slid up, meaning that they could go. Which meant the storm was over. When all eight fairy horses went out, the four mothers whispered to each other, letting their children gallop ahead. “It might have been the Night Mares way of saying ' we're coming!' " Whispered Cyclone. "Yes. I agree." Rose whispered solemnly. "I don't like it, but I think its true too. We should let all four of our foals to have a sleepover at my house. You 3 are invited too!" Rose whispered eagerly. “Indeed. Our children need as much protection as they can get,” whispered Droplet. So it was settled. At 8:00 pm, Cyclone, Droplet, and Hearth arrived with their foals at Rose’s house. Hearth kicked the doorbell with her hoof. Luckily, all the doorbells in Fairy Horse Land were at the bottom of the doors so that they could easily be rung. Rose pushed the door open. “Hello!” Rose sung with a toothy grin. “ Come in! I have put 8 plates on the dinner table and serving up some carrot salad!” With those words, the now one-year-old foals and adult Fairy Horses went inside. Immediately the four children galloped up the horse-friendly stairs and up into Soil’s room. There, they talked about what the Fairy Horse Trainers would be like. Would they be strict, or easy-going? Would they be nice or mean? Cyclone, Hearth, and Droplet walked to the kitchen, talking along the way. “Hey… Isn’t tomorrow when they go to the Fairy Horse Trainers?” Droplet asked, stirring the vinaigrette. “Oh yeah!” Hearth said. “I better go talk with the Fairy Horse Trainers for some more information.” Cyclone said quickly. Then, Cyclone pressed the button on the phone that called the Fairy Horse Operator. “Hello. Who is this?” the high-pitched voice of Oppie Smith said. ”Its the Rose and Soil household. Cyclone speaking!” answered Cyclone. “Oh. Hi Cyclone! Who would you like to speak to now? Its 8:17 at night!” Oppie mentioned. “Um. Oh yeah! I’d like to speak to the Fairy Horse Trainers now please.” “Your children are finally old enough to be trained, eh? Well all right. Here:” Oppie chuckled. “Master Yung Chow speaking. Who is this?” “Hello Master Yung Chow. Cyclone here. Droplet’s, Hearth’s, Rose’s, and my foals are ready to be trained tomorrow! We just want some information that you could maybe share? Only normal info, like when we should pick them up and drop them off, that kind of thing.” “Well, you drop them off at 10:00 am tomorrow and then pick them up at 5:00 pm. On their first day of school, all parents are welcome to see us train them in the separate rooms. For example, since your foal is an Air Fairy Horse, you go to Master Mare Wind’s room.” Master Yung Chow yawned. “Well, better that I go to sleep now. See you tomorrow!” Then Yung Chow hung up. Cyclone walked back into the kitchen. “So. What did he say?” urged Droplet. “He said that we drop them off at 10:00 am tomorrow.” Cyclone paused, then yawned too. “Then we pick them up at 5:00 pm. He also said that all parents are welcome to watch the Masters train the foals tomorrow in the separate rooms.” After that, the carrot salad was ready and all set on the table. “Come children! Its time for dinner!” Hearth called. The four baby horses galloped down. Everyone finished their bowl quickly and quietly. “Well. Soil, today you have to go to bed early. So that means RIGHT NOW. Tomorrow is school.” Rose said firmly. Soil obediently went up to her room. “You guys too.” Hearth said. Fiery, Whirlpool, and Tornado trudged up the stairs. Soon after, Cyclone, Droplet, Hearth and Rose went upstairs too. At midnight, alarms wailed throughout the city “GO TO THE S.S NOW!! WE ARE UNDER-“ Everyone rushed downstairs and galloped as fast as they could to the Storm Shelter. While the horses were running, they saw a huge fire/air tornado! The tornado was ripping through every house, building, and when the tornado passed through something, nothing was left but flattened dirt, not a blade of grass to be seen. Hearth stopped suddenly. “WE CAN’T GO TO THE S.S! THE S.S WILL BE DESTROYED!! WE HAVE TO RUN INTO THE FOREST, TRUST ME!” The 7 other horses looked at Hearth, narrowed their eyes, and galloped in the direction of the forest.

Once they entered the forest, the 8 fairy horses sped along at full speed. They reached a lake in the middle of the forest and stopped for a drink. “Hearth,” Rose gasped. “I think you’re right. I felt it in the earth while we were running. There was a huge earthquake underground.” “Then all those who did survive were washed away by a huge flood!” Droplet nodded. “Well. I’ll turn invisible with my air powers and I’ll check for any survivors. Why don’t you guys set up camp while I’m gone?” With that Cyclone vanished, but everyone heard her hooves clopping away. Rose stomped one hoof on the ground 4 times, and a huge cave made of rock with 4 separate rooms seemed to grow out of the earth appeared. Hearth made a warm fire just outside the entrance of the cave, and then made a fence of fire 10 feet around the cave. “For safety measures.” Hearth confirmed. Then Cyclone came back, not invisible. As everyone looked at her, Cyclone shook her head sadly. “No survivors. I actually saw the Night Mares. They were putting up a sign that said: ‘All prisoner Fairy Horses report to King Golden Heart.’” Just then Tornado asked, “ Who are the Night Mares, Mommy? When are we going get trained? And, why is this happening?” Fiery, Soil, and Whirlpool nodded in agreement. “Well. Honey, the Night Mares are another race of Fairy Horses. The only difference is that, they turned bad.” Cyclone took a deep breath then went on. “This happens when another Night Mare meets a Fairy Horse and convinces him or her of the bad ways. Next, the Fairy Horse turns black with white spots and blue eyes with golden hooves. Everything. And that answers your first question, Tornado.” Cyclone looked at Droplet and nodded her head. “Your second question, I will answer.” Droplet declared. “Since the Fairy Horse Trainers are, dead.” Droplet cleared her throat. “Me, Hearth, Rose and Cyclone will train you ourselves starting tomorrow. So you guys better have a good nights sleep, even though its 2:00 am, and wake up refreshed!” Droplet nodded at Rose. “All of this is happening because of the Royal Prophecy,” continued Rose, “The prophecy is this:  Four children will be born at the same time. 1 Earth, 1 Fire, 1 Water, 1 Air. These 4 will go on a quest to save humanity and the Fairy Horse race from the Night Mares. These 4 will master their skills and powers and if they succeed, they will become the Quadruple Queens, and usher Fairy Horse Land into light.” “And we’re pretty sure that the prophecy is talking about you 4.” Hearth concluded. Shocked, Tornado looked at Fiery, who looked at Soil, who looked at Whirlpool. “You-You’re talking about us?” Soil stuttered. “Yep. Now off to bed!” Droplet answered. So the 4 Fairy horses galloped into the big cave, one room each. “Us too. We have a lot of stuff to do.” Hearth said as the Fairy Horses went into the separate rooms with their foals.

The next morning, Hearth woke up earlier than the others even though it was 10:00 am! Hearth knew the time because of a gold necklace she had with a watch on it .She kept having nightmares about the Night Mares! She decided to let the others keep sleeping while she made a nice breakfast for them. She clopped along into the forest to pick some apples. She found only 2 blueberry bushes, an orange tree, and a watermelon plant. Nevertheless, she picked all the blueberries she could and went back to the camp. Then she went back for the oranges. She couldn’t pick the watermelon because it was still growing. She then made a nice fire by taking dry branches, arranging them in a pyramid shape, next blowing fire on it. Hearth made a pan by taking rocks that were flat on one side and then fusing them together. She put the pan on the fire and put the blueberries in it. Hearth then heard a yawn then a sniff from the cave. When Hearth turned around to see who was awake, she saw Tornado literally floating 1 foot off the ground towards the smell of the roasting blueberries. Tornado then dropped to the ground on her hooves and then stole a blueberry with her snout. “Tornado.” Hearth said. Tornado indicated she heard her by perking one of her ears up, even if Tornado was still looking at the roasting blueberries. “ If you wake everyone up we can start eating these blueberries and oranges.” Tornado turned around and clopped towards the cave. Hearth levitated the pan off the flame, because all Fairy Horses have the power to levitate things. That is how Fairy Horses do things. I mean who can imagine doing or moving anything with hooves? Soon, all the Fairy Horses came out of the cave. Tornado and Cyclone were first. “Rose can you lift a stone out and make a long table?” “My pleasure.” Rose said with a smile. With that a long table rose out of the earth. Next Hearth lifted the pan and gave everyone an even number of blueberries. “If anyone is still hungry,” Hearth said with a mouthful of blueberries. “There are some oranges behind the fire.” Hearth then swallowed and sighed. When everyone finished, Droplet announced, “We will start training now. Even though some of you have already used your powers before-“  “Like when Tornado floated towards me this morning,” Hearth said. Droplet nodded. “Just like that. Anyway, you need to be able to harness them when you want to.” “I say that we each take our own baby and train her, so we know how to train her.” “Agreed.” “Well,” Rose said. “No better time to start than now!”

Rose led Soil into a clearing with no grass or dirt. Just rocks and stone. Rose turned and began “So Soil. You are going to train on how to control the earth right under us.” Rose stamped her hoof on the ground to make the point stronger. “Wait. Can we control grass and dirt too? Or just rocks?” “Grass and dirt too.” Rose confirmed. “Ooh! I hear a river!” Soil jumped up and down in excitement. “ No need for that. Droplet can summon water, remember?” “I know, but still!” Soil said as she galloped towards the sound. Rose had nothing to do but follow, so she did. “Look!” Soil yelled. “Its Droplet and Whirlpool training.” Droplet and Whirlpool turned to wave, and then continued to train. It actually isn’t a river. Rose realized. Its just water on the floor and surrounding them in a fast torrent that Droplet summoned. “Its nothing, Soil. Lets go back.” Soil and Rose trotted back to the clearing without saying a word, Rose lifted a small stone out of the ground and launched it at Soil. Soil turned and jerked her head to the side. The stone followed and landed on the ground to her left. Soil looked at the stone to Rose and to the stone again. “I did it!” Soil’s face broke out into a grin. “I knew you could do it honey.” Rose said. “It’s a natural instinct.” “Yea but I feel a little dizzy and faint and light-head-” That was all Soil remembered.

Chapter 2

“Are you okay, sweetie?” Soil woke up to 6 Fairy Horses crowding and looking down at her. “Yes mom. Just a little cold.” Soil looked again. Only 6 Fairy Horses? Soil scanned the faces of all the Fairy Horses towering above her. Where was Fiery? Soil stood up and inspected her surroundings. They were back at camp. Soil narrowed her eyes, trying to see farther in the blinding sunlight. Everything was blurry, even though it was slowly but steadily coming into focus. “Where is Fiery?” “Fiery is right here…” Hearth said and realized she was not there. “ Oh my Fairy Horse.” Hearth said, panicking. “Don’t worry.” Cyclone said. “Fiery is behind you.” Hearth looked behind her and surely, there was a small Fairy Horse staring at a growing fire in the distance. The fire was surrounded by a snowstorm. A blizzard. “What color is that blizzard?” Tornado asked. “Its like an acid color.” Cyclone said. Then the truth dawned on Cyclone’s face. “Everyone crowd me! Quickly. We don’t have a lot of time.” Everyone crowded Cyclone. Cyclone next jerked her head from side to side. First slowly then picking up speed.  Soon there was an air shield surrounding them, going so fast that nothing came through. Not even oxygen. All of them gasped and Cyclone croaked, “Make a bubble Droplet. Make a bubble!” Droplet started hyperventilating but still she nodded. Droplet snorted, and out of her nostrils on her snout, she made a small bubble on her head. Then Droplet blew out of her mouth and a slightly smaller than the air shield bubble came out. “Yay!!” everyone cheered. Cyclone looked behind her and remembered the acid blizzard. A few hundred yards away, the blizzard was still blowing. Still going strong. Cyclone said, “That blizzard is made by the Night Mares. We have to gallop or the Night Mares will see us and intentionally hunt us down. 3 2 1 gallop!!” After the word ‘gallop’ 8 Fairy Horses turned and ran for their lives. “Cyclone, Tornado,” Hearth gasped, still galloping. “Maybe an extra speed boost if you will.” Tornado and Cyclone nodded and poured on the speed. The air shield did the same. All 6 other Fairy Horses were so much slower than Cyclone and Tornado that they bounced against the side of the bubble even if they were still galloping. The bubble almost popped, but Droplet ran right next to Cyclone and Tornado and the bubble followed her will. “There!” Droplet shouted. To their left there was a small cave with shrubs and bushes almost hiding the camouflaged entrance. Cyclone veered left and let go of the air shield just as they slid in. Everyone was gasping and taking deep breaths. “Ouch my sides hurt!” Soil complained. “Sorry for making you run and all after fainting, but we had to.” Rose said gently. Hearth stuck her head out the door and peeked left and right. “No sign of the blizzard to our left. It probably just kept going.” Rose nodded and sucked more oxygen into her lungs. “Grrrr.” something said behind them. It growled again and then roared. Out pounced a saber-toothed tiger.

The saber-toothed tiger was easily the most beautiful thing they saw

since leaving the village. It’s fur was sleek and furry, the color of peaches. The way it pounced was elegant and light, like it weighed nothing. Its claws were perfectly trimmed like it just visited the nail salon. Its 2 big razor sharp teeth jutting out of its mouth were pearly white. It lunged at Hearth. Hearth instinctively dogged. As its paws closed on empty air, it turned and faced Hearth. “What’s your name?” Hearth said quickly. Hearth was probably silently telling the other Fairy Horses 10 feet away from her to help, but they were frozen in fear. Literally. The saber-toothed tiger radiated so much cold that he covered the other Fairy Horses in snow. Hearth tried to summon fire but she was so cold she didn’t have the power to do so. “Ginger!” the saber-toothed tiger roared as he lunged again. Hearth expected it, so she was ready. As Ginger pounced, Hearth turned and kicked Ginger in the face. Or so she thought. Ginger gingerly jerked his body to the left and landed on his paws. Just as he landed, he pounced again. Hearth’s defense strategy didn’t go as successfully as the other ones. Ginger landed on Hearth’s back, but didn’t have enough balance and slid off. Even though, the damage was already done. Hearth fell over. Even if Ginger looked light, he was pretty heavy. Ginger loomed over Hearth, his teeth dripping with saliva. Then Ginger turned and examined the snow piles, as if he never saw them before. Ginger went to the top of one snow pile and dug down. There was an ice statue of Fiery! Hearth wanted to sob and cry, but she couldn’t let her fear show. Instead, she wheeled herself around and stood defiantly. “Wait!” Hearth yelled as Ginger was about to bite into the ice statue. “So,” Ginger snarled as he jumped off the ice statue and circled Hearth. “You stand again, against an all powerful saber-toothed tiger. You won’t be doing that any time soon!”

Ginger pounced and Hearth yelled “Wait!” again. “What do you want? Any knowledge you gain now won’t matter. You will be dead!”  “I am part of the Royal Prophecy.” Hearth yelped. “Liar.” Ginger accused. “Please listen.” Hearth pleaded. “Fine.” Ginger sat down on some leaves and straw and bit at something between his toes. Hearth told Ginger their story, starting from the day she visited Apollo, to present time. Ginger was a good listener. At the end of it, Ginger said, “I believe you.” “Really, you do?” Hearth felt a small spark of hope. “But I can’t let you go.” Hearth’s small spark of hope dissolved into nothing. “Really. Why?”  “Because I can’t hunt. I have a thorn in my paw and whenever I try to sneak up on something, the thorn makes a sound on the ground.” “I can fix that.” Hearth said. “But first, I’ll need my friends.” Ginger limped to the other side of the cave. That side looked like half of winter. Ginger leaped from ice statue to ice statue. Each one he stepped on melted into a shivering Fairy Horse. Fiery galloped to Hearth’s side and tried to make a fire. She did it all right. It was a blazing. After everyone got caught up to the latest news, Hearth looked outside and saw that it was the dead of night. “Well. Before I tell my plan, lets have a good night’s sleep.” Everyone slept like an angel at the sound of the word ‘sleep’.

Chapter 5

The next morning, Hearth woke everyone before Ginger woke and told them the plan. They all sneaked out and found a rat’s nest. They surrounded it. Hearth and Fiery took the front, Cyclone and Tornado guarded the back, Droplet and Whirlpool took the left, but Cyclone and Tornado stood a little to the right, so the rat can get into it. Once the rat climbed into the nest, Cyclone and Tornado went to their places. “Ah!” squeaked the rat. “What’s your name?” Cyclone said roughly. “Squeak.” Squeaked the rat. “What is your name?” Cyclone asked again. “Name Squeak.” The rat said. “Okay Squeak. You’re coming with us.” They returned with Squeak and asked Squeak to gnaw down the thorn. Then pull it out. “That Squeak can do.” Squeak agreed. Squeak sneaked up on Ginger. Next he gnawed on the thorn and pulled it out just like they said. A lot of blood was coming out, so Squeak quickly made a bandage of bamboo and grass and tied it around Ginger’s paw. They thanked Squeak, threw him a piece of cheese, and sent him off. Hearth made a fire and Rose sprouted a golden apple tree. Cyclone cleared the skies and Droplet made a lake. Just like old times. When Ginger woke up, they shouted “SURPRISE!” “What, is it my birthday or something?” Ginger grumbled. Ginger stood up and took one step towards them. Ginger was puzzled. Where was the sound of the thorn? He looked down and saw that the thorn was gone, and a pink wound and bamboo bandage had token its place. “Yes! Thank you thank you thank you thank you!” Ginger growled playfully. Ginger leapt from side to side in the cave with grace. After all the “thank you” and “you’re the best horses in the world”, Ginger stood at the entrance of the cave and bowed, his tail high in the air, wagging excitedly. Ginger cleared his throat as all 8 Fairy Horses watched him. “My life is entitled to yours because of your kind deed.” Ginger said. “So I have decided to be your Cat Companion. Actually that has a nice ring to it. ‘Ginger the Cat Companion of the Quadruple Queens’. Very nice indeed.” Ginger cleared his throat again. Rose looked to Cyclone, who looked to Droplet, who looked to Hearth. Hearth stamped her hoof and declared; “You are very welcome to join us.” Ginger nodded. “Well, we have to find a nice place to train. Maybe the camp?” Rose suggested. Droplet shook her head. “The blizzard must have destroyed it too. It was directly behind us when we ran, so the blizzard must have destroyed-“  “I didn’t notice! The blizzard was right behind us so the Night Mare controlling the blizzard in the middle must have seen the remains. So that means they know there are a number of Fairy Horses left. They don’t know exactly how much hopefully but still.”  “And that means they will be hunting us down, making sure the prophecy doesn’t come true.” Droplet shook her head sadly, as golden sparkles fell off her midnight black mane. “Come on everybody. We have to keep on the move.” So they all trailed out one by one out of the cave. They looked left and right for Night Mares, like looking for cars when crossing a street.  Ginger was the first to notice the smoke rising into the sky. Ginger sniffed. “Smells like smoke…”  “And looks like smoke too.” Whirlpool added. Whirlpool raised her hoof into the sky, pointing straight ahead, above a forest. “Hey wait. Smoke means fire. A campfire! Maybe its Night Mares maybe….” “Hide!” hissed Tornado, and they dove into a bush. Ginger leapt over the bush and behind it like a blur, pearly white teeth bared. Tornado and Cyclone raised a wind that carried them behind Ginger. The others weren’t so lucky. Many got scraped and cuts bled as they struggled to fit through the middle of the bush. Luckily, another Night Mare talked to the one coming towards them, which slowed him down. “So Bob…” A Night Mare called Bob? Okay. Bob turned around and walked towards the bush. Whirlpool realized with a jolt that they were sitting on a secret stash of food, which looked pretty tasty after walking for 2 hours. Then Fiery, the brave Fairy Horse, dove at Bob and rolled into the forest together, in the direction of the smoke. The other Fairy Horses galloped through the thick forest in the same direction. The campfire must be in the middle of the forest! Rose realized. Rose prayed that Fiery managed to direct the roll, because she wasn’t so sure if a Fairy Horse who rolled into the middle of a Night Mare camp was going to have a Welcome Party. Off to their right they heard some shrieking. They ran to the right and saw Fiery being pinned down by Bob! They quickly surrounded Bob and Fiery and pulled the two combatants apart. Cyclone picked an apple and put it into Bob’s mouth. An old strategy, but a good one. They dragged Bob away while Droplet went back to get the stash of food. They dragged him a good mile away before kicking the apple out of his mouth. “AAAAHHH!!” Bob screamed as he tried to be a worm and crawl away. “Not so fast.” Fiery stood defiantly in Bob’s way. “You are going to go to your little camp, but first you must tell us a few things. You’re going to tell us if you’re kind,” Fiery said unkindly, which was hard being a horse. “Tell us if they are looking for us.” “And if I don’t?” Bob stood up. “If you don’t, you have to face me and trust me. I’m plenty hungry.” Ginger growled, as he stood beside Fiery in plain view. “Um. Okay I’ll tell you!” Bob sobbed. “They are looking for you. Their sending a search party back the way their acid blizzard went.”  “Now you have to make a promise. Clop your hoof and swear to die if you don’t do what we say.” Cyclone said. “Okay.” Bob sighed, exasperated. “ I clop my hoof,” Bob stomped his sparkly golden hoof on some fallen bark, “and I swear to die if I don’t do what you say. Okay. Now what do I have to do.” “Say that you had to chase down a weasel from stealing the food. They’ll ask why you’re so cut up. Say the weasel fought back. They will also ask why you didn’t use your powers. Say you were too tired.” “Okay I’ll be going now.” Bob galloped away and jumped as a big wind carried him all the way to the camp. “Psst!” a voice said as they turned away. “Psst!” the voice said a little louder. They all turned towards the voice, which seemed to be coming from bright green bush. “ I overheard you talking.” The voice said, still unidentified. “A few clearing a good few miles away are to the left of King Golden Heart. It’s good because it’s next to a river, so no Night Mares go that way to transport things to him. Also good because my Fairy Horse friend, Falcon Eye, was captured, so I want to help him!” The speaker showed herself. It was a beautiful pure white Samoyed with mismatched eyes. One was bright green, while the other one was a darker blue. Her curly white tail curled upwards then down again. “Hello!” the Samoyed greeted. “My name is Celestial because, as you may have noticed, I have a silver marking on my forehead shaped like the moon. It can also shine a bright white light when I want it too.” The Fairy Horses bowed their head in greeting while Ginger walked around Celestial and sniffed. “A dog.” Ginger spat. “So. Celestial. How did you end up here?” “Well.” Celestial waited until the silence became unbearable. “Well what?” All the Fairy Horses said at the same time. “Well. What is your name? And yours, and yours, and yours? I need a proper introduction.” Celestial said as she nodded her head towards Ginger and the 8 Fairy Horses. After all the proper introductions were done, Celestial sniffed the air, turned towards Fiery and made a deep rumbling sound in the back of her throat. “Who are you?” Celestial growled. “Fiery, aren’t I?” Fiery looked confused. “I hate to agree with a dog, but Fiery doesn’t smell the same. She smells...strange.” Ginger said as he sniffed the air again. “Are you saying I need to take a bath?” Fiery sounded offended.  “No. Its just that-“  “You actually do need to take a bath.” Celestial cut in. Ginger glared at her. “Ok. I’m sorry. Continue Ginger.”  “It’s just that we do need to be careful with who we trust. We don’t know what Bob said to Fiery while they were fighting in the forest.” Ginger looked each Fairy Horse in the eye except Fiery. Be careful with what you say around her. What if she is turning? If she is, she will go to King Golden Heart with her plans. We all now that one day we will have to battle for Fairy Horse Land back!

He seemed to say. They all got the message. “Well. Let us continue on.” Celestial said. “I can guide you to King Golden Heart’s Palace. But it is more like a rich, fancy castle of Evil. With a capital e.”  “Who is Evil?” Whirlpool asked.  “Evil is evil itself. It is confusing. It is a shrine in King Golden Heart’s Palace where numerous Night Mares try to gain Evil’s powers. All of them burned up in the process. See, Evil died millions of years ago on the same exact shrine.” Celestial explained. “Come on. I will explain as we walk to King Golden Heart’s Palace.”  So all 8 Fairy Horses listened as they walked, as Ginger trailed behind them. “Evil’s powers are ancient, powerful powers. They aren’t evil. It is just that people including Evil used them for bad.”  “So. Night Mares could have amazing powers, and they could be behind us?” Tornado asked.  “Don’t worry sweetie. Ginger will make sure that doesn’t happen, right Ginger?” Cyclone said as she turned her head to look at Ginger. Cyclone screamed. They came galloping back. “Ginger!” Cyclone screamed again. Ginger was knocked over and a horrible black and red beast stood before him.

The beast had wrinkles everywhere. It looked like a big pudgy dog, but the similarities ended there. It had horns at the side of its mouth like mandibles. It was all black except for its horns, which were blood red, and bright orange fuzzy hair surrounded the beast’s face like a lion’s mane. Its feet somewhat resembled bird claws. It was pink and furrowed and had 3 hooked claws jutting out. Its tail was a King Cobra, except it was dark red. The beast’s pupils were dark purple, surrounded by deep brown. It was something they have never seen before. As the beast turned to face the 8 Fairy Horses and Celestial, its tail inspected Ginger. “I have seen plenty of monsters, but I’ve never seen on of those before.” Celestial willed her light to turn on. She shone it right in the beast’s face, and it squinted. Other wise, it seemed unfazed. Celestial shone her light at the beast’s neck, and it helped to see in the dead of night. Something sparkled at the beast’s neck! Celestial looked closer and it was a dog tag and collar. “Hey guys! Keep it busy. I see something.” Celestial yelled. They nodded. They then unleashed their power onto the beast. It was quick though. It dodged all their attack and started knocking them over like bowling pins. Celestial ran towards the beast and jumped on its back. “Ruff!” the beast barked. She held on for dear life and made her way up to its neck, which was hard as it was about 7 feet long and 3 feet wide. With a swipe of her paw, she cut the collar off and slid down. Meanwhile, Hearth and Tornado and Whirlpool were down on the ground, frantically pawing the air next to them. The rest was running and dodging its attacks and, when they could, sending blasts of fire and water and air, and rocks. They all slowed it down (especially the rocks) but the beast kept getting up again and barking in outrage. Ginger was up, and then fell back down again. His side was scraped and numerous cuts on his shoulders and legs bled. Celestial read the dog tag quickly and shouted; “Hybrid! Come to me!” Hybrid stopped in his tracks and ran towards the sound of his name. Celestial made the signal for them only to attack when she said so. Hybrid went next to her and howled a deep, long, sad howl. Celestial howled then barked in response. Hybrid then turned around and loped back the way they were going. To King Golden Heart’s palace. “Guys. Come check this out. This is bad!” Hearth said. They galloped back to where Hearth was standing. There on the ground was a deep purple collar that said:  King Golden Heart. “That’s bad. King Golden Heart intentionally sent this after us.” Hearth looked worried. “Guys! I’m still here.” Ginger groaned. They hurried over to Ginger side. Ginger was cut on his shoulder and scraped on his right side. Tufts of fur were littered on the floor. His paws were bleeding. “Um…” Droplet said. “How bad is it?” Ginger groaned. “Not that bad.” Celestial said as casually as she could. “Just a little fixing needed.” Celestial hurried over to a stream near by. “Here, drink some water.” Hearth levitated Ginger over to the steam. Ginger looked at them after he drank, his muzzle dripping with cold water. He then put his paws into it, as it seemed fresh and clean. “MEOW!” Ginger yelped as he sprang off the ground and landed behind Celestial. Celestial shone her light, as it was still turning dawn. “No pieces of wood or anything in your paws and cuts. So I can heal you.” Celestial took a deep breath. She put her paw on Ginger’s back. Something silvery white flowed through her veins and into Ginger. Ginger tensed, then relaxed. Ginger’s wound went pink, then purple, then it closed and fur grew over it. Celestial collapsed. “She is out cold.” Hearth said. Fiery stood to the side, gazing at the stars. “How do you know?” Whirlpool asked. “Because I am a Fire Fairy Horse. I can sense her heat level, and it just dropped a little.” So, All 8 of them levitated Celestial as they continued down the thick forest. They passed Night Mare camps, getting bigger and more often the closer they got to King Golden Heart’s palace. They galloped by them, trying not to make any sound. About half way there, they collapsed with exhaustion next to a very tall tree. “I’m so hungry!” Soil moaned. “I’m so thirsty!” Whirlpool groaned. “I’m so tired!” Tornado whined. Only Fiery didn’t say anything. “That’s weird.” Hearth said under her breath. “Why isn’t Fiery saying anything?” Cyclone trotted up to her, her breath visible as it rose up into the air. Her teeth chattered. “H-hey Hearth. J-just wondering if you could make a fire. T-t-thanks.” Hearth and Fiery cooked up a very warm fire. They all, even Ginger (who brought Celestial’s body with him), went up right next to the fire. They snuggled and were packed together like sardines to preserve body heat. Celestial shuddered and opened one eye. She then went to sleep, lightly snoring. Soon, they all were snoring. The next morning, Cyclone woke up early and summoned a wind to carry her up the tree. The leaves on top were thick and strong and big. The top was flat enough to park a car, so why not park a Fairy Horse? She willed the wind to carry her to the top of the tree. She looked down and saw a loose ring of Night Mare camps surrounding them. Her heart started to pound. BABOOM. BABOOM. Wide eyed, she flew back down and quickly put out the fire. “Guys!” she hissed. She shook all of them awake and said; “Ginger! Celestial! Scout out and see if Night Mares are coming!” “What?” , Ginger murmured, “Yea, I had nightmares.” Cyclone looked at him, confused. “Oh, yeah!” Ginger realized. Ginger and Celestial loped away. As they were doing that, Cyclone went to work at getting everyone up. When everyone was up and looking at Cyclone, Celestial and Ginger returned with worried looks on their faces. “Come on! We have to go!” Celestial barked. Together, Celestial and Ginger herded them in the direction of the palace. “Why, hello there.” A deep voice said. The owner of the voice showed himself, and it was a Night Mare. They turned the other way and tried to run, but a circle of Night Mare’s surrounded them. A trap. “My name is Vortex,” the deep voice said. “And now, I will turn you in to King Golden Heart!” Vortex yelled; “Now!” and the other Night Mares pawed the ground.  Black rope coiled around the legs of the 8 Fairy Horses. Ginger and Celestial gracefully dodged the ropes, and the ropes wrapped themselves against trees behind them. Ginger pounced on one of the Night Mares, but he reared and hit Ginger with his golden hooves. Ginger yelped and crashed into a tree. Celestial leaped onto the Night Mare that kicked Ginger and they fell, Samoyed over Night Mare. Celestial rose triumphantly, her muzzle crimson with blood. “Oh, come on.” Vortex chided. “You can’t win.” Ginger staggered to his feet like a drunken man then fell again. Vortex stepped forward, and a blast of wind knocked Celestial down. “An air Night Mare, huh?” Celestial muttered. Vortex jerked his head and 2 black ropes wrapped around Ginger and Celestial. “No!” Cyclone croaked. “So close… Should have seen camps before…” Then Vortex shouted at the remaining Night Mares to levitate the Fairy Horses and Ginger and Celestial to their camp. They walked to their camp and dropped the hostages to the edges of the camp. All the Night Mares crowded the horses and jeered and shouted. “That’s what you get, stupid Fairy Horses!” A tangy voice shouted, somewhere in the crowd. Vortex told all of them to wait until noon and they should sleep and such. The Night Mares did as they were told, and the captives were alone. Even Vortex went to sleep. “So, I guess this is it then.” Fiery sniffled. Her eyes were even redder than usual. They inch wormed to each other to keep warm in the chilly autumn weather. “Squeak.” Something said. “Squeak, squeak, squeak.” “Is that…Squeak?” “Yes.” Said a small, high-pitched voice. Squeak scampered up onto Hearth and sniffed the black ropes. “Bad ropes.” Without saying a word, Squeak gnawed and chewed at the ropes and spit out the parts he chewed up. Hearth stood up and warily looked around. It was a normal camp, with a crate that smelled delicious on the opposite side of the camp. The only problem was all of the sleeping Night Mares in their way. She pondered if she could go through the forest and go around the camp. She decided not to. If she did, there was a small chance of running into the other camps. When she turned back around, all the fairy horses plus Ginger and Celestial were up and rubbing against each other for warmth. “Ginger. Can you please go check out that crate?” she whispered. “ ‘Ginger do this, Ginger do that!’” he grumbled. “Well. Our hooves are going to make too much sound. So either that, or we starve to death.” “Fine.” Ginger sighed. Ginger leaped over the sleeping bodies, landing on his soft, soundless paws. Ginger peered into the crate. He carefully pushed the crate over on the grass.  He leaped over back over the bodies with raw meat in his mouth. Squeak, in all his mousey glory, went back there and managed to find a whole block of cheddar cheese. Squeak went to the crate again and carried back un-peeled, fresh fruits. Mango, blueberry, apple, orange! They took as much as they could carry while Cyclone and Tornado managed to find the strength out of hungriness and thirstiness to make a wind to carry them away from the camp and into the direction of the palace. They found a nice lush hill to rest. Its lime green grass was soft, but a little wet. Squeak carried his cheese not far off and immediately started nibbling on it. Ginger raced away in the opposite direction, to the bottom of the hill. Celestial was chasing him, yipping like mad. Celestial managed to catch Ginger and together they ate the 5 big, thick slices of meat. Cyclone, Hearth, Droplet, and Rose let out a neigh of relief. They plopped down and started eating the fruit. The foals chased each other, but finally settled down to eat with their moms. “I can not believe Squeak followed us!” Cyclone said in astonishment. “Urghh!” Tornado said in reply with mango stuffed in his mouth. After that, they all found a small cave in the side of a mountain near the hill. Hearth and Fiery made a fire in the cave this time. Rose and Soil made a small chimney that slanted up to the other side of the mountain, so if Night Mares tried to follow the smoke they would fail. They snuggled next to each other while Celestial and Ginger switched watch. The next morning, they set out for King Golden Heart’s Palace. “With no attacks or distractions, hopefully!” Cyclone said with a small smile. They huddled together and walked. They went back into the forest and found a small lake. In the distance, there was a shadowy thing, about the size of Ginger. Fiery’s eyes burst into bright red flames with determination. Determination to destroy the thing. It seemed to have walked over to the lake and started drinking. Fiery snorted, and smoke curled out of her nose. She took a deep breath, but Hearth (being her mother) saw the warning signs. “No Fiery. We need to see if he is friendly, or a foe.” Fiery calmed down and took a drink from the lake. The others realized how thirsty they were, and drank too. Ginger paced around them. Celestial kept sniffing the air and staring at the figure. From there. It seemed to be human shaped. They knew what humans looked like from looking down at them from a temple in Fairy Horse Land called The Sight. The only difference was that this thing had multiple shadows, all around him. “I think I might check it out.” Celestial said bravely. They all nodded, so Celestial made a lot of noise walking towards him. I mean, who knew what this guy would do if you scared him. “Hello. My name is…” Celestial thought for a moment. Should she say her real name and trust him? “My name is Luna.” She decided. The human smiled slyly at her.  “Why hello, Celestial. No need to lie with me.”  “How do you know my name?” Celestial asked warily. “Your shadow says a lot about you. And trust me, shadows never lie. Attack!” he yelled. All his shadows left him, except for his normal one, which was behind him. The shadows barreled towards her and changed into 5 of the shadowy figure. Celestial did the only sensible thing. She ran. Celestial’s heart pounded as she leapt through the lake for a shortcut to where her friends were. She hoped shadows couldn’t swim. She cut through the water like a motorboat and jumped up. She un-consciously looked at the sky, and it was noon. The sun was highest up in the sky. She looked around and the shadows were nowhere to be seen. She cursed her self. She didn’t know whether the shadows were gone, or were they invisible? She looked at the ground and saw a slight shadow move through the shade of a tree. It had a slight smile, like the figure she met. “Run!” She yelled. They all ran after her. Through the trees, through bushes, and through tall grass till they were back at the hill. “Guys come on! High ground is an advantage!” They scrambled up the hill and caught their breath. “What were you fighting anyway?” Ginger groaned. “Shadows. That shadowy guy sent 5 shadows after me. He also knew my name and said something about my shadow never lies and my shadow tells a lot about me.”  “Well, no wonder we can’t see them. There is no material thing that casts them.” Hearth said. “Well, their just stupid shadows.” Tornado tried to sound up beat. “And if there just shadows, they can’t touch us, right?” Soil added. “Children. Go back into the cave and stay safe. Fiery can make a fire can’t she? Even though she doesn’t have training.” They trudged back to the cave, and Celestial said, “I will go guard them so they won’t do anything silly.” So Celestial ran after them. Ginger shivered. “It is so cold and windy!” As if they didn’t have enough bad luck, it started raining. Well, they thought it was rain until one droplet hit Droplet on the head. “Ow!” she exclaimed. “Its hail!” Droplet made a bubble around each of them so they wouldn’t get hurt. The shadows came in after that. “Hey guys, look! It’s the shadows!” Rose warned. One went after Ginger and three zipped towards the four Fairy Horses. The other one went straight for the cave. “NO!” Droplet cried out as the shadow went after the cave. She took a deep breath and blew a bubble towards the cave. The shadow was fast, but the bubble was faster. It stuck to the entrance of the cave and the shadow bounced back five yards and landed on his bottom. There was a crack and it started to cry. Then the shadow dissolved into black puddles. Meanwhile, Ginger was wrestling with his shadow. Ginger dug his claws into its shoulder and they tumbled and rolled over each other. Ginger stood on top of the shadow and was about to bite its neck before the shadow rolled again, crushing poor Ginger. Droplet was playing defense with one of the shadows. The shadow punched, while she had eight arms of water around her, lashing out and whipping the shadow whenever he struck. Rose was dodging and throwing rocks the size of a house, but whenever it blocked, it thrust a black knife into it and the rock crumbled. Hearth was prancing around the shadow that was fighting Rose, blowing fire whenever she could. Cyclone had a small tornado (a little bit bigger than her) around her that kept throwing her shadow off balance. Once she blew the shadow a little away, and sent a smaller tornado after it. The shadow was thrown around, but eventually it threw a small gleaming black knife at the tornado and it dissipated. Cyclone was tiring so she turned off her tornado and began to dodge. Ginger rolled with his shadow down the hill, and Hearth saw him. “No!” Hearth yelled. “Rose, keep it busy!” Hearth galloped after them and saw that the shadow was about to stab Ginger. Hearth, who was still only half way down the hill, jumped all the way down to the bottom and used her hind legs to kick it in the face. It dissolved and soon after, Hearth’s legs buckled. “I think I might have dislocated my knee.” She groaned. “Its okay.” Ginger said softly. “I’ll be right back!” Ginger loped full speed to the cave. “So stay here? Got it.” Hearth moaned. Ginger raced back to the cave and stopped as the bubble was still there. Ginger put his paw on it and raked his claws on the side of the bubble. It popped, and he quickly got Celestial to follow him back to Hearth. They dodged 1 or 2 black knives thrown at them and zipped to the bottom of the hill. “What is wrong?” Celestial said softly. “I jumped off the top of the hill to the bottom to save Ginger. I think the jolt dislocated my knee or leg.” Celestial put one paw on Hearth and Celestial’s eyes turned silver. Something white flowed through her veins and a small white circle formed around Celestial’s paw and on Hearth.  Hearth stood up straight now and her legs looked as strong as ever. “Now lets destroy some shadows!” Hearth said with a grin. They leapt to the top of the hill and sprang into action. Hearth yelled and a magma storm enveloped her. She started blowing fire at the 3 shadows, and when a shadow or knife came to close, it burned and melted. The other 2 were wary of this because one of the shadows charged and got incinerated. Ginger and Celestial jumped on top of one of the shadows while Hearth galloped over to the 1 left, leapt over it, and next turned in midair to blast the shadow with dark red, almost purple, fire. The shadows were turned to black, gooey, puddles in a matter of seconds. “Thanks.” Cyclone said with a smile. Everyone congratulated Hearth, while Ginger and Celestial herded the foals out of the cave. “ Go faster!” Ginger said impatiently. They all stood on the top of the hill, their manes blowing to the side while golden sparkles fell out. Fiery and Hearth’s bay bodies trembled. Rose and Soil’s rich, brown bodies paced back and forth. Cyclone and Tornado’s pure white bodies stood completely still. Droplet and Whirlpool’s gray bodies looked around. “Well, better get going, or we will never set off to King Golden Heart’s Palace!” Ginger exclaimed.

I love it. It has everything you'd expect from a great epic. A great destiny. Child with a hard duty. Evil to fight. Wow. I've been waiting for something like this for years.

If I may, there are two improvements I would suggest.

Firstly, it is too long and could do with being broken up into smaller chapters.
Secondly, there is a little too much exposition that could be better told through dialogue.
For example, your opening where you introduce the 4 Mothers might have been better done in a more personal way, such as a scroll written in the first person by a Horse Loremaster or Historian. If it helps, take a look at my story Zulu Drop on this website. The intro might give you an idea.

Personally, this is exactly the kind of story that I enjoy and you should be very proud of what you've done.
