A Journey to Closure

A Journey to Closure

A Poem by Lakshmi Ramesh

Won't regret any past moments
Won't regret coming to know you
But won't deny the relief from imprisonment
From the chimerical cage I was put in by you
The cage seemed pretty and comfortable
Seemed like Atlantis was found
But when I woke I saw the bars
The hard metal that held me bound
So sudden it was, the vicious change
Felt like a splash of cold water
A rush of pain, a burning sting
Thought I'd never get better
Months and months I waited
For a glimpse of somethingI once knew
Months and months I hoped
Maybe there'd be a change in view
Eventually hope burns out
The candle always melts down
Eventually got sick of playing
The ping pong game with no ending
Back and forth million words exchanged
Some nice, some in utter rage
A quarrel became a war
The war an epic battle
Guilt rid me quite often
Thinking maybe I did something wrong
But after so long that guilt has gone
Away into a forgotten memory that was never born
Finally there is closure
Finally a shining light
At the end of this tunnel of light
I am coming out with all my might
