Pink Umbrella Girl

Pink Umbrella Girl

A Poem by Lakshmi Ramesh

The pink umbrella girl
What's her story?
The one who walks with her
Is her glory

Holding those tiny fingers
He sleeps feeling safer
In her tiny cold arms
She keeps him warm

Don't have anyone else
In this cruel world
They're each other's rocks
For every tidal wave

Life has been cruel to them
Thrown out of the nest before time
Falling down to the depths
No one to heed their call

See them everyday
Between red, yellow and green
Making their daily each day
Happily as one team

Time has made them grow old quicker
Faster than the norm
Time has taught them to hold tighter
When harsh winds threaten their form

After a long day I see the girl
Pink umbrella in her hand
Holding it for the little one
While she feels the rain
