The Leader

The Leader

A Poem by Lakshmi Ramesh

Scruffy beard and a tucked in whit shirt
Seated in the cabin like a serene creature
Looking confident with an all knowing smirk
Was he a disguised tyrant or an understanding leader

Rarely would you find someone so alluring
Someone so intellectual, someone so daring
Earns your respect extremely fast
Helps you learn the truth of the world so beautifully cast

The power in his verbosity is worth watching
the magic of his aura worth experiencing
Earning instant respect with whomever he met
Leaving a hint of awe in every room he went

He has the ability to make you feel capable
Under his leadership his team grew impeccable
He might seem scrawny and not so daunting
But that's before you experience the man he's become

To his team he was their iron pillar
The one that never corroded or ever turned to quicksilver
But if you ever catch him at a lonely moment
You get to see the tire in his eyes and some fear that you can sense

He lives his simply and without question
But if you look closely you'll see the vices that torment him
He has his imperfections, a list that's probably long
But it doesn't quite matter cause his virtues are that strong

Despite all his grandeur, he is just a man
A man with few beliefs and a few demands
Sometimes he falters a little from his stand
But knows how to hide it for he's a confident man

The beauty of him isn't in his perfection
But in the way he walks, his head held with conviction
But the most fascinating is the way he puts his questions forth
Not only about others but also about his own worth
