Her People

Her People

A Poem by Lakshmi Ramesh

Hours in the class together
Singing Backstreet Boys
And even more in the canteen together
Idli chilli was why they raised their voice

Constant complaining about the sunny summer
And yet walking on to find a new joint
The randomness in the CR
And the stress of exams till the last point

The days spent laughing, crying, yelling and having fun
The memories of pulling each others' legs stopping for none
Many came as friends and many drifted away
But the 5 of them; they were together to stay

Always had each others' backs
Always made excuses for the others
When their absence created some hassle
And caused a bit of trouble

Each so different and yet so alike
Feeding off off each others' strengths, weaknesses and light
The alien, the fat-a*s, the angel and the smart-a*s
Don't know how and when these four came and engraved themselves into her life

Looking back through the years
She knows she'll never regret
Loving them so much
Or giving so much respect

For they made her days a little happier
They made her life worthwhile
Everyday she wakes up in her bed
Realising they will be there to make her smile!
