sashes and scepters

sashes and scepters

A Poem by Jennifer Welker

scepters and sashes
are not enough
to rule the world

licorice, posies and ashes
will never stop
the kingdom from falling down

a crown and a nod
are the only things
they ever got right

still, you could hear the echo,
'god save the queen
and so the band played on'

adorn with robes
vested to knight
kingdom come. will is done

The title to this drew me in, but to be honest, I am not sure about the poem itself. Not sure if it is working with itself. I like the word usage you have applied to it, but not sure I understand it. Maybe some clarity, for me, would help. It means something to you and that is what I would like to know as well. Also, isn't septor spelled "scepter" or "sceptre"? I think you have a good idea here, just not sure if it is done or done as well as it could be.
