DEATH&SHE: Suriving for NothingA Poem by Aura InannaThis if for the "Lovely Death" contest. There was no inspiration, only the need to get back into the writing mood. (Which is why I've been writing so much today.) Hope you enjoyed. :) ~Aura
And DEATH walks through the open portal to the world he left behind.
And SHE finds a spot to sit and cry. And DEATH has a spot for her. For her bittersweet tears, tasting of cocoa powder. For her stagnant breathing, it’s a wonder she breathes at all. And DEATH smiles his crooked smile down at her. Her breathing stills, the sobs choking her as if naturally. SHE finds a sentence to hold onto “Survive for nothing.” How is that enlightening? And DEATH laughs. And SHE raises her head. Her eyes swim with the blood red tears and lock onto his. Cold dead eyes. But they are beautiful to SHE, SHE who has only stared into the eyes of hatred and deceit. And so SHE reaches her hands up, to DEATH’s surprise, and wraps her delicate fingers around his crimson soaked scythe, and brings it to her chest. And she reveals, “I think Survive for Nothing, but if there is nothing to survive for but something to die for, dying is much more inviting.” And DEATH smiles, for he can see her soul with his lifeless eyes, and it is lighted with him. So her hands thrust and her blood drips. And with her last breath she mutters, “You are my DEATH. My DARKNESS. My ETERNAL.” And DEATH laughs once more, readying to pull her soul from her body and into his Kingdom. But it lifts, floats, and GOD smirks down on him. “You will have nothing. DEATH is not deserving.” GOD laughs, evilly like a heavenly DEATH. And DEATH sinks to his knees. To the spot where SHE once sat, crying. And DEATH cried burning tears himself. © 2011 Aura InannaAuthor's Note
