Run Run Run AwayA Poem by Aura InannaShe will only stop running under one, painful condition. From that dirt floor she picked herself up and ran. Her dark eyes flashed. They told lies, like she would be coming back. They blended in with the eventide sky; they made her look like a ghost in her image. Her cloak swirled around her. The soft fabric clung to sweaty skin. Trees tried to intervene with her race. Their branches took pieces of the fabric and brushed the skin. She would be missed. Those filthy murderers, those demons, they would miss her. Miss her as one misses a particularly nice toy. They picked her up for her glitz and glamour. They kept her for her servitude. Except for one, he kept her for her. He kept her for love. And it was to this one she ran. She didn't think. She breathed between steps; her thin legs carried her far; her spirit carried her further. A black flash of fire welcomed her. She kept running. A crash of lightning, coiled like a dragon, tried to persuade her. She didn't stop. The panic made her sick. The sight of bones, red and hollow, made her breath stop. The sight of her love, insanity inching closer, closer to desperation. He fell. A trail of blood. A final farewell. Smiles, good and evil. She ran. The evil looked up, looked tired. “Kill me.” His knife took her breath. She was laid down, next to her love. She stopped running. © 2015 Aura InannaAuthor's Note
