DIFFERENT WORLDS

if you walk away, i'll walk away

we have both walked away

each our own

separate way

down paths unfamiliar 

the mud under my shoes

a trail of

upended tree roots

and fallen

leaves

as your shoes marry

their paved companion

a route adjoined so

perfectly

neighbouring stones that become the

entrance to your

city

with towering buildings growing 

seemingly taller with 

every step

with every step I find myself

deeper

lost in the crooked tangle of trees

 

we keep walking

away

to new worlds so distinct

 

our paths might cross

one day we 

might meet as 

strangers

despite parting as 

friends

i feel this...have had a couple relationships like this....and thought one time one of my closest friends could make this happen...she is no longer with us...but that was such a possibility...
and sometimes we might just walk full circle...right back into one another...really like the metaphors used in this.
