On you

On you

A Poem by ForYouWordsWeren'tEnough
"

A poem about love and loss.

"
On you,
There are a thousand words I could say
A thousand smiles I could make
A thousand things I could take
And describe in excruciating detail
Until you cringe at how clearly I remember you
Because I do.

I remember you the most
Your laugh, your eyes, your ghost.
The name I have to pretend not to be excited to hear
Because when I hear you mentioned I grin from ear to ear.

Like a little kid
Who wants to tell you about their made up game
I'd tell you all about mine
Where we grow up together and kiss in the rain.

Because you are the person
I would spend the rest of my life with
And not notice the years flying by,
Which is why when I was leaving
You were my only selfish goodbye.

I'm sorry, that on you there is so much more to say,
but I'll let my death conveniently get in the way.
