Our Hidden Selves

Our Hidden Selves

A Poem by Lunar Lightning

What beauty lies within us all

Behind our beastly shells

Beyond all acts with selfish thoughts

Locked inside some internal box

And gaurded by chains and pain

Hidden for reasons we do not know

It is a wonder how our instincts work

Hiding our better halves

Keeping what may make us voulnerable

From those who may aim to harm

Yet the same instincts that protect us

Make us stray from those meaning to help

So are they truely helpful

Our hidden selves

I think not

I enjoyed the very sudden end to the poem. I'm referring to the last stanza only being half as long as the other two. It makes for a very in your face comment! Well done!
