A Child's Crush

A Child's Crush

A Poem by Lunar Lightning

I remember you so clearly

Though it was so very long ago

You always had a smile on your face

Always had something to say

We were oh so very young and childish

Playing the game of tease and chase

You would call me a name

I would run after you

Dodging teachers and other children

Laughing and running till the class bell would ring

You would pull me into a seat with you on the bus every day

That best friend of your's sitting on the other side of me

Making me stay

Then that day came when you admitted to yourself that you liked me

We sat in the very last seat on the side behind the bus driver

You sat by the window and I between you and your friend

You said "have you ever held hands with a boy before?"

How cute a line for a third grade boy to say

But of course I had to think you were just messing with me

I said "yes, your brother"

You grew upset, for your brother had been crushing on me as well

Crossing your arms and staring out the window you remained silent

Little did we know

That the next day I would not be in school

I would not be in my house

My mother would be leaving my stepfather and I would never see you again

So now I am doomed to ponder

That decision I made that day

Should I have held your hand

Or was I right to push you away

How do you come up with all these little stories all in a poem? I'm in awe :] I like the little moment of wonder and regret at the end there, and the little lesson of how change can be so sudden. Very realistic and also, again, very cute :] (Of course, I'm impressed by this girl because in third grade boys still had cooties but she had the guts to *gasp* befriend him!) J'adore la!

I like this, because I think it kinda relates to everyone who's had their first crush as a child and then out grew them
