Day DreamingA Poem by MaryDay Dreaming I sit under the shady willow tree, My ankles crossed in resting. Warm spring air catches my skirt And I watch the day go by Oh how I love to watch the children play Their endless energy reminds me of past summers, When I was once the little girl With the scuffed knees and silly thoughts I was truly happy then, No worries to speak of Or responsibilities, How I long for that freedom. But time keeps moving And I keep growing, Changing like the seasons, I do not know what tomorrow will bring. I watch the clouds Creating a zoo out of their shapes My imagination stirs, I loose myself in the depth of the simple blue sky I imagine that I am a butterfly, With wings of gold and sharp magenta. I rule the forest with my beauty and grace, What a sight I am You try so hard to catch me But I am never within reach, I am a limitless creature That wishes not to be caged. You may gaze upon me if you wish But only on my special willow tree, For I do love the shade. © 2010 MaryAuthor's Note
