Silver Steps

Silver Steps

A Poem by Mary
"

a poem i had to write in class today...what do you think? It is for a grade!

"

Silver Steps

My feet quick on the slippery pavement

I dash to make up lost time

My bag pulling on my tired body.

This is my constant rhyme,

The tick tock on the morning clock

That brings the yellow monster to me

I swear I will wait for eternity.

It is a ritual

I’ve come to dread,

The long early walk

In the cottony fluff,

That falls from a sunless sky.

I swear that I will die

But never stop the endless trot,

When I get there I only wait,

Sometimes minutes

Sometimes longer,

But each second makes the chill grow fonder

Of my once warm flesh,

That is now numb and dry

With my winter lullaby.

Nicely written...when I originally read the title, I imagined that the "sliver steps" were going to show up in the end of the poem as a place for the sad, mundane little girl to escape her reality. Still, I think the imagery that you used was beautiful, and you told a story with your words, so I'm sure that the grade will reflect that.

A dreaded walk you have described very poetically. Nicely done. I'd give it an A.

I think you did a great job. It gives the feel of dread and boredom of a daily routine that you know you have to do and you just do it. I think you did a good job on this. I think you deserve top grade for this in my opinion.
