YouA Poem by Veronica Nicolewritten for creative writing; The way the stars gleam tonight, Smiling down upon me; Thoughts of our love crossed my mind, We, who were not meant to be. I fell in love with your brown eyes, Your sweet, crooked smile. The safety I felt in your arms, I could stay a while. A voice of reason spoke to me, This is what is meant to be. Months and months of missing you Passed with no relief. When your secret was exposed, I cried tears of disbelief. The one thing that I couldn’t say, You said to me with ease. “I cannot do this anymore,” You left despite my pleas. A voice of reason spoke to me, This is what is meant to be. Days dragged by without you, But finally I realized. Those brown eyes I once had loved, Were empty of all but lies. Time had come to let go of, The boy I thought I loved, you. For it was then I realized, I loved someone new. A voice of reason spoke to me, This is what is meant to be. Doubts ran rampant through my mind, “It could never be. He’s so incredibly wonderful, There’s nothing special about me.” His blue eyes, they captivate My heart like none before. And when he holds me in his arms, There’s nothing I love more. A voice of reason spoke to me, This is what is meant to be.
